4.0 out of 5 stars Want a Gibson?...Get a Takamine
The guitar is playable right out of the box. Action is high but reasonable, but the more you play it the more you like it. This is my first, and I love it. Takamine customer service (via email) is great; they would answer any question you might have. The guitar comes with DAddario EXP16 according to them. 3.0 out of 5 stars Great guitar for a great price - needs some adjustment
Guitar's bridge is way too high....need to take it in to adjust. Probably the reason I got such a good price on it. Overall satisfied...you get what you paid for. Even with the repair great guitar for a really reasonable price.

4.0 out of 5 stars Want a Gibson?...Get a Takamine, August 29, 2006

The guitar is playable right out of the box. Action is high but reasonable, but the more you play it the more you like it. This is my first, and I love it. Takamine customer service (via email) is great; they would answer any question you might have. The guitar comes with DAddario EXP16 according to them. I did change them to EPX10 Extra Light Coated 8020 and it is a better player. Next will be a good setup by a professional. Get a humidifier; I got the Planet Waves Acoustic Guitar Humidifier System, plain and simple. Get a case as well, I bought the Takamine case that is very secure and keeps the guitar well. I played a Gibson similar to the Takamine, and no much difference but the price. I put both guitars thru a good amp. With no amp, I experience little difference. The guitar stays in tuned for days once the strings have stretched. The wood grain in the guitar is beautiful, it looks and sounds like a $2000 guitar. Don't let people know. Is a Korean made guitar, which tells you that is good quality. With no more to say. Get one, have fun and play it a lot.

5.0 out of 5 stars Very nice guitar, May 11, 2007
This review is from: Takamine G Series EG523SC Jumbo Acoustic Electric Guitar, Natural (Electronics)
I' v had this particular guitar for less than a week, and have already fell in love with it. Plays like a soft dream, cords oh so easy. If your like me, and most people, the "F" cord is a killer, well not on this guitar, it really cords that easy, and makes me look, and sound better. As for the quality, and workmanship, superb. Looks of the guitar is stunning, and that's what initially drew me to this particular model. The sound that resonates is clear, and clean. The onboard tuner is great, and easy to use. Plugged in or not this guitar really sounds great!
If I had to find one thing I don't like about it is the name, it's hard for me to say ;)~
Great value, great sound, stunning to look at, makes the Takamine EG523SC the perfect buy.

4.0 out of 5 stars Good guitar for the money, September 9, 2008
This review is from: Takamine G Series EG523SC Jumbo Acoustic Electric Guitar, Natural (Electronics)
This instrument is one of the most beautiful instruments I've played. The built-in tuner works well, and it's a well built instrument, very high quality fit and finish. Action is a little high, and there's some fret buzz: but nothing a decent once-over by a good shop can't fix.

My negative point is that I am little disappointed with the acoustic sound. It sounds a little weak compared with my Blueridge BR-160. That's not a big negative - it's not quite a fair comparison because the Blueridge is an absolute cannon. But I was expecting a little more.

In any case, it's a good instrument for the money.

4.0 out of 5 stars Great Guitar, November 26, 2011
This review is from: Takamine G Series EG523SC Jumbo Acoustic Electric Guitar, Natural (Electronics)
I just got this Monday and so far it's been a blast. I've owned many guitars over the years and none have compared to this for the price. This guitar is amazing, I have the natural one and the pictures on here do not give it justice. This guitar is so beautiful and the sound is so sweet plugged in or unplugged. If I had a complaint it would be the pick up system. But that would be a very small complaint. It sounds good but I was expecting it to be a little louder than what it is. But the action and sound makes up for that. It came ready to play right out of the box. Tuned it up Monday evening played it for about 4 hours. Took it out of the case Tuesday checked the strings had one string out, played it for about another 4 hours. Haven't tuned it since. If you want a beautiful guitar and a great sounding one for a decent price this ones for you. I've had a Gibson that cost 2 as much and not sound as good.

The quitar has a very nice sound. It is also very nice to hold it, while I play. Also the outside image of the quitar, the colors fit together very well.

5.0 out of 5 stars Beautiful guitar.. comfortable to play, June 19, 2011
This review is from: Takamine G Series EG523SC Jumbo Acoustic Electric Guitar, Natural (Electronics)
I am extremely picky when it comes to buying a guitar.. especially at this price point. I bought, returned and bought again. This guitar really satisfies me. It's a beautiful, solid-top wood guitar and fits really comfortably on the knee. The action was really low at the store which sold me. I'm not certain about how they usually come out of the box but this one was set up great. This one is a keeper.

5.0 out of 5 stars Great starter guitar that won't need replacing right away at intermediate!, December 26, 2010
Amazon Verified Purchase(What's this?)
This review is from: Takamine G Series EG523SC Jumbo Acoustic Electric Guitar, Natural (Electronics)
I bought this guitar to take lessons on, and it has served me very well. It sounds and looks great. Its a beauty. I much prefer the light color of the wood on this guitar to the darker wood models I looked at, and it sounds much better than the cheaper models I considered. The tuner makes keeping it sounding great very easy. The strings are not that far above the neck, so its not as hard on the fingertips as other guitars I tried... although the strings that come on it are very stiff.

It is an acoustic-electric guitar, meaning it can be played with or without an electric amplifier setup. I have never used the electric plug ins yet, so I can't comment on the plugged in sound, but the unplugged sound is great.

Overall a great guitar given the price I paid. I bought it for 499 dollars in November of 2010, a fairly expensive learner guitar, but one that wouldn't need to be replaced right away as a mere "beginner" guitar. My comments are based upon the price I paid, if it is significantly more than that, it may be priced beyond beginner range...

Check out YouTube for in depth reviews and examples of the great sound.
