I recently purchased this guitar because of some good reviews that I had read, and also for its appearance. After receiving this guitar...I am happier with my purchase than I thought I would be. I have owned a Washburn D10S and a Takamine GS330S and neither look, sound, or play as well as this one. I am a beginner, but know a great product...this is it!

I've been playing for about 10 years now, and I was in the market for a cheap(er) acoustic guitar that I could play while at college. My little brother is in his senior year of high school, and I felt he should have access to a quality guitar (my original) for these last few months. I initially told myself that it's more important to him than it is to me, but I started having regrets a week ago (after all, this is the second semester of my senior year, too)! That's why I decided to splurge and buy another guitar. I did a lot of research into different brands. As a college student, I don't have the money to get a nice Taylor or Martin, but I also didn't want to spend money on a piece of plastic that I would feel embarrassed to play and, more importantly, that wouldn't feel "right" for me. I went with the Takamine G340 SC because it had everything I was looking for: it was reasonable priced [at the time of my purchase, it was cheaper here on Amazon than on other websites], it boasts fine craftmanship and woodwork, it's light but projects sound as only a dreadnought can do, the SC has a shallow cut, which allows me to fret higher chords and notes, and it looks great--I particularly like the gold tuning pegs. It's not super flashy, but it definitely conveys that a lot of hard work went into its construction.

Some things I caught my eye:

*There is only one strap pin located at the bottom of the guitar. In essence, if I played with a strap (which I don't normally), I would need to buy a strap that can tie at the headstock [not a big deal, but something you'd need to consider if you wanted to purchase a strap, which is sold separately].

* The guitar strings that came with the guitar are fine, but the tone is personally not my favorite.

The guitar looked great but it played awful. I couldnt seem to get it in tune. After I took it to the Luthier, they said that the wood body was not only dried out completely but warped which was giving it poor sound, and this was nothing a setup could fix. Amazon was great about taking it back and offered another in return, but I decided against it. I think for the most part it was from sitting in a warehouse that wasnt temp controlled, for a long period of time.

I don't think you will find a better sounding guitar in this price range. It is very easy to play, has a great sound, and looks great. I played several different guitars when I started looking for a new guitar. I played a couple of Taylor's and Martin's that were on the lower price range (still around $700-800) and I honestly could not tell a difference in sound and in my opinion the Takamine G340SC was easier to play. The strings that come on the guitar are ok, but I went ahead and put a set of Martin MSP4200 strings on, and man it sounds great. I would highly recommend you give this guitar a try.

The Takemine G30CE-NAT is a Truely Lovely Guitar. It was a little dirty coming out of the box, it was a waxy like build-up on the fretboard caked on at the edges of the frets. It also had a very small patch on the back side of the neck that was just slightly rough, a good cleaning and polishing pad took care of it in less than a minute. It also had a small section of binding on the backside of the cutaway about an inch long that was worn through the clear coat. Propaply happened at the manufacturer during the final polishing with the indusrtrial buffer wheel. really hard to notice anyway, but two minutes with my polishing pad and you can't even tell. However the guitars overall quality and condition was and is excellent.

I feel it is important to note that UPS delivered my guitar and I was not happy about their service. As it arrived at my home, I had seen them pull up to the house and so opened the door. As the driver brought the package up to the door he failed to pay attention and literally slammed the box into the concrete steps as he began climbing them(there are only two steps). He then pushed the box at me (which was mashed at one end, turned and went back to his truck without so much as a word, let alone a signature. Like I said 'not happy'! Who knows how they treated it throughout the rest of the shipping process! Though it was packed well and nothing was broken.

OK back to the important part of this...the guitar.

I'm not a big fan of the D'Adarrio EXP bronze coated strings that come on the guitar. They are ok strings, though a little rough on my fingers and I find them a little duller in tone than I prefer.

Great starter guitar, would be surprised if there was anything else out there this good at this price. After a few weeks I was impressed with how well it stays in tune . Would say it is well worth the money at this level.
