I bought this and 5 vehicles for my 3-yr-old. I was frustrated and disappointed with the quality of the flimsy cheap track and the way the track fits together. It just seems cheap (the track) and getting the track to store as it should underneath the lid is something a younger child will NOT master. (I even have to play around with the track a bit to get it to work so the lid/roof shuts!) Booo! Stick to the real stuff.

Stay with the wooden trains, this set is crap. The trains get stuck in the little doors all the time, as well as toddler hands on occasion (seriously). The catches on the doors wear out quickly so they won't close (which is frustrating to little engineers). The tracks take more coordination to assemble than little hands can muster. I hate this toy, but the trains themselves are nice. All and all the wooden Thomas trains are much better. They are easier for little hands to control and the tracks can be assembled in different ways to keep the toy fresh.

My boys love all things Thomas, so in their case this is a great toy. My major complaint is the fact that it is not so easy to "take along". The track storage compartment at the top is not very big and if you don't fit the tracks in perfectly, the lid just doesn't close. Not a very convenient take along toy and the tracks are always scattered about the house. I agree with other reviewers - the wooden tracks are much better - I would rather take enough of those along to make a simple track than this toy.

My son loves this toy. He like putting the trains into the roundhouse closing the doors and saying night night and then opening them and saying hello. A very good purchase. And, it can hold 6 or so cars depending on size so it's a great travel system. The only bad part is the track really doesn't stay together. So, don't expect assembling it and having your child sit in front of it all nice pushing a train around in a circle. Not going to happen. But, plenty to keep him busy while at the grandparents!

I have a three year old son, he loves these take along toys. We take them every where with us. The tracks stay together very well we move them from room to room and never have to take them apart. We have almost every part of the Take Along Thomas the Train items.

We have purchased over the years both the brio wooden thomas sets and now the take along sets. I must admit, my husband and I differ in opinion about them. I always leaned toward the brio and he the take along. I have to say, the price of the brio sets have been steadily climbing over the years and I just can't/won't justify the added expense (and it is a big difference by the way) of the brio sets when my boys (4 and 18 months) love the take alongs every bit as much as the expensive ones! My son loves to take the roundhouse along and I love that there is a place for all the trains. I also think some of the negative reviews are a bit unfair. We've saved a bundle with these sets and my kids love them. Thats good enough for me!

My 2 and 1/2-year-old son got this toy for Christmas and he honestly wouldn't have cared if he had gotten anything else. He loves it and plays with it night and day! I like the smaller cars as opposed to the wooden set, which we also have quite a bit of, because of the price and because they take up much less space. The toy is built very well, as are the cars. I highly recommend this toy.

I just purchased this toy for my 2 1/2 year old son. He loves this toy and can play with it for hours. I love the fact that it is just the right size and it is portable so we take it with us when visiting relatives. It keeps him entertained for a long time. If your child likes Thomas the Tank Engine, then they will love this toy!!

My son absolutely loves this. I got this for him last Christmas and he has played with it all year long. He even packs up his trains to take with him on playdates. He was almost 3 when we got it and because it is so simple, he can take it apart and put it togther now on his own at age 3 1/2. I recommend getting it, but make sure you have several trains for it. He was a little frustrated the first day just having the one train, so we went the day after Christmas and got 2 more trains and that made him happy.

This set is great! I bought this for my 2 1/2 year old son right before a vaction. It travels very well and kept him entertained for hours in the airport and hotel. Now that we're back at home, we take this set with us to restaurants, doctor's appointments-really anywhere that might involve waiting. I keep it in my car and it has saved me many times. This toy has paid for itself over and over. I recommend this to anyone who is looking for an on-the-go toy.
