5.0 out of 5 stars Why is this book out of print?
I just read this book, having recently won a copy on eBay. What a shame it is no longer in print; much as I loved I'm With the Band, I enjoyed this well-written sequel even more for its incisive, introspective look at evolving as a person and learning to make peace with the past. 5.0 out of 5 stars Why is this book out of print?, December 28, 2000
This review is from: Take Another Little Piece of My Heart: A Groupie Grows Up (Hardcover)
I just read this book, having recently won a copy on eBay. What a shame it is no longer in print; much as I loved I'm With the Band, I enjoyed this well-written sequel even more for its incisive, introspective look at evolving as a person and learning to make peace with the past. To all the hypocrites who condemn Pamela Des Barres as an immoral bimbo, I say, we've all had incidents in our past, sexual and otherwise, that we are not necessarily proud of or would have done differently had we been older and wiser. Des Barres was extremely brave to chronicle her failing marriage, becoming a mother, death of her father, search for spirituality, and learning to see her own shortcomings-codependency and avoidance of confrontation at any cost-with brutal honesty as well as a sense of humor and optimism. Details of Des Barres' Hollywood lifestle, such as being friends with such celebrities as the Zappa family and many others, also makes this book a fascinating read. However, what really hit home for me were the universal experiences that every human being goes through: the journey of finding one's sense of self-worth and purpose, learning to work through life's pain and setbacks to be strong and change for the better (always easier said than done!),and learning to find joy in every moment of every day. Pamela Des Barres, with her hard-won inner strength, sweet nature and spirit of adventure, is truly an inspiration.

4.0 out of 5 stars Excellent Book!!, July 9, 1999
By A Customer
This review is from: Take Another Little Piece of My Heart: A Groupie Grows Up (Hardcover)
Miss Pamela shows that she has come of age in several different ways with this autobiographical sequel to I'm With The Band. Her marriage to Michael Des Barres, the birth of their son Nicholas, and her daily struggles with career, marriage, and friends make this a most intresting read. Illuminated with her constant quests for truth in her spirituality, this is much more than a "groupie tells all" sequel. She is at once eager and vulnerable, wise-cracking and humble. I'm waiting for part 3!!

4.0 out of 5 stars She's cute honest and insightful - this is an eye opener, April 10, 2006
This review is from: Take Another Little Piece of My Heart: A Groupie Grows Up (Hardcover)
C'mon- she's not a PHD candidate at some university- this is not critical literature- it's just her rock and roll story. I found it very telling that she lived for so many years as a codependant housewife in a dysfunctional high profile relationship. A very intriging follow up to her first book. I like her and I liked the book, (as well as I'm with the Band.)The two books are an eye opener to just how macho and swaggering the rockers of old really are. Why begrudge Pamela?

I strongly urge all women to buy this book, I couldnt put it down. Pamela is so bravely honest about her life and writes as if your talking to your best friend one on one. I found myself going on a journey with her in this book. For those who need to know how hot Mick Jagger was calm down its in there but theres so much more to this woman. Her positive vibrant spirit jumps out at you within these pages, a spirit that as you read the book your drawn to and you just want her to keep writing more. Pamela is so very creative in her writing she makes you feel every ounce of her experience. In this book you can really relate to her in so many ways and we can all gain by her positive strength and spirit. Pamela shines a white light, a light that will leave you wanting more. This is a must read, you'll enjoy every moment, every page every word and even though Pamela has led a limelight life you can still relate to her as a woman on a journey. I couldnt put it down and Im a hard cookie to crack. I cant wait for her write again.

What a great read!! I loved every page of this book!! Pamela writes so honestly and shares so much personal stuff in a way that boggles my mind. I wouldn't have the courage to write and publish a book this personal. Her writing is insightful, strong and laugh out loud funny.

5.0 out of 5 stars Fun, intriguing, well written and rockin', August 14, 2008
I loved this book!! What an interesting follow up to her first book. Pamela Des Barres has the most enticing writing style - like you're dishing with a good friend and hanging on her every word. As a woman of similar history, it was so intriguing to see how all her earlier adventures played out as time went on and how her amazing spirit continued to shine through it all. What an uplifting person - how lucky we are that she has the writer's gift and has chosen to share her incredible story and energy with us. A must read for those with a rock-n-roll heart.

5.0 out of 5 stars No Holds Barred - Once Again !, August 14, 2008
I picked up Miss P's first book, I'm With The Band, only about a year ago, and I admit I keep coming back for more ! This is a witty, page-turning sequel that does what most sequels can't do: keep the juicy stories flowing !! The journey from page 1 until the end has its ebbs of laughter and flows of tears. Pamela's writing style is recognizably her own, and she sure knows how to tell a story ! An amazing read, and am impatiently awaiting another piece of work from the tantalizing Pamela des Barres.

Pamela DesBarres' first book "I'm with the Band" is one of my favorite books ever - and this sequel is fabulous as well. I love Miss Pamela's honesty, humor, writing style and positive sunny outlook on life. She is an inspiration! I have re-read this book almost as many times as her first book - I just love it! What an amazing life (so far) - I am so glad she chooses to share her life experiences with the rest of us.

3.0 out of 5 stars It's All About Pamela, May 18, 2010
One of those times where the writer perhaps does not realize that the early book (I'm With The Band) was a screaming success not so much because we were infatuated with the writer, but because we enjoyed the stories & the details about others. So here is the sequel which is more about Pamela herself and her life, and well it's not really that interesting. Granted yes there's the same charming breathless exuberance. It's very readable. But the subject has no resonance outside of a small circle etc. Another slant is the book lacks detail, e.g. hey the sex was great with Jimmy Page, but after all a few thousand girls could probably say that. Give us a little more since we went beyond twitter and bot an actual book, dear Pamela.

5.0 out of 5 stars All that...and so much more!, April 27, 2009
Amazon Verified Purchase(What's this?)
I just finished this book...it is my favorite of hers. After getting to know her and her style of writing in her other wonderful books, this one takes you deeper into her personal life as a mother to Nick, and wife to Marquis Michael Des Barres, as well as coming out of her shell as a newly single mom in the aftermath of her divorce. Her detailed accounts and the sweet human way she writes made me feel like I was a sister she was chatting with and advising along my way. Her shining soul and freedom-loving spirit make this a warm, friendly, and sometimes quite juicy time-well-spent!
