4.0 out of 5 stars This broke some kind of ground., October 9, 2006
This review is from: Take As Needed for Pain (Audio CD)
Quite loud and akward, words cannot really describe it.

They have a sound all their own. Like said - "disturbance" is very creepy. Your woofers may not survive the bass in this CD. It is not some "bass" CD per se, but the bass is killer.

The overall sound is very powerful, yet not real fast. All the noise of speed metal without the speed.

It is good, but do not even try to understand the format of the lyrics. They are there, but not in order.

5.0 out of 5 stars fall down at the alter of Sabbath worship..., January 6, 2005

i cant possibly reccommend this disc highly enough.as many other reviewers have mentioned, this is one of the founding fathers of "sludgecore".Fat,thick really slow ala Melvins guitar tones crawl over everything in its path.the melvins reference stops here, though,as they more or less are making fun of metal whereas Eyehategod are morphing it into something even more sinister.in other words,HEAVY.seriously, this disc has some of my favorite riffing of all time.you have been warned....

5.0 out of 5 stars Now every human being has to go through some suffering, January 20, 2003

Anyone unfamiliar with the sheer power that surges through every second of every EYEHATEGOD song has no idea of the potential of the genre. No other band has EVER been able to portray pain and depression like this before. EVER. This is the album to first experience EHG, thier "fast" album, where thier punk influence bears it's ugly head. I first heard them when I downloaded "Blank." The resounding feedback, the opening riff ending in a scream; 10 seconds into it, I was hooked. This was the sound I had been looking for. This was the band. This IS the band. Buy this album. It is still my favorite today; I listen to it at least once a week. I will warn you now, you will be able to understand more of the lyrics on this album than on any of thier others. Which will be about 12 words. EHG is the soundtrack to ANY and ALL emotional catastrophe. You may have no idea what he's saying, but I guarantee you, when you hear Mike's tortured agonizing screams against the pounding beat and screeching feedback, you will know EXACTLY what he means.
