5.0 out of 5 stars Take a close look at this book, January 25, 1999
By A Customer
This review is from: Take-Away Applique (Paperback)
Anyone who has ever shyed away from applique should look closely at Suzanne Marshall's book Take Away Applique. Suzanne's clear step-by-step explanations could unlock the mysteries of this art form for you as it did for me. Her lovely naturalistic patterns, which include flowers, butterflies, caterpillars, hummingbirds, and many many other charming creatures, make practice a pure joy. Suzanne is an award winning quiltmaker who shares with us the judge's comments about her quilts. We get a close-up look at what judges look for and how "subjective" judging can be. I LOVE this book, the format is so friendly, honest, open and encouraging. With this book anyone can master applique adn learn to make beautiful quilts that will please and bring joy to the harshest of all quilt judges....yourself. Michelle Sargent

5.0 out of 5 stars Bitten by Suzanne's bugs!!, June 14, 1998
By A Customer
This review is from: Take-Away Applique (Paperback)
I am cursed!!! This morning at 5:30 I am up working on an applique piece consisting of "bugs". Suzanne's book is marvelous. I am so inspired to try all of her suggestions. Quilting pox is bad enough, but now I have insect pox also. Suzanne has given me the freedom to do my own thing. I have hidden my work before because it wasn't done by traditional quilting standards. Bah, Hum"bug" to that! I treasure my autographed copy of Take-Away Applique as not only a techniques guideline, but also as an insight into a healing exercise. All artists will appreciate the diary form of this book as Suzanne progresses through each piece.

5.0 out of 5 stars Wonderful! Even for non-quilters!!, April 22, 1999
This review is from: Take-Away Applique (Paperback)
Suzanne Marshall's book is a delight. Even for those of us who have never considered tackling a quilting project, this is a wonderful read. The lovely photographs and Ms. Marshall's informal style make this a winner!

5.0 out of 5 stars Love this book...Worth trying to find a used copy!, July 28, 2008

I really love this book. Not only do you get how-to lessons (which are awesome), you get to hear her husband's thoughts that were very fun to read. I've had the pleasure of taking a class from Ms. Marshall and she is terrific. I think I personally like this book better than the second one but both are wonderful.

5.0 out of 5 stars The Absolute Best Applique Techniques--Period!, April 11, 2011
This review is from: Take-Away Applique (Paperback)
I love everything about this book from Suzanne's quilts to her husband's commentary AND the judges comments but, for me, what sets this book apart is SM's "Take Away" technique. So easy, so accurate. It has literally changed my applique life. No more boring, tedious, back basting or fussing with inaccurate overlays. Minimal prep, you can get appliqueing fast instead of spending precious time fussing around. BTW This is for needle turn. Love her patterns. Great ideas for creating one's own designs. BUY THIS BOOK!

5.0 out of 5 stars Take Away Applique, November 5, 2010

This review is from: Take-Away Applique (Paperback)
I have had the good fortune to take several classes from Suzanne Marshall. She has been described by other quilt instructors as "A Rock Star" of quilters and she has earned the title. Take Away Applique gives detailed, step by step instructions using Suzanne's fun, easy, award-winning methods of applique. Her techniques are by far the best I have learned and the easiest to do. She takes the fear and frustration out of this beautiful art form. Her designs are whimsical, beautiful, imaginative and amusing. She opens your mind to unlimited creativity and gives you the tools to accomplish your goals. I highly recommend this book.
