Buddy's Best Studo album, September 14, 2001

Of all his brilliant Pacific Jazz albums, this one is among the top 4 for the quality of the charts and performances (with Mercy, Mercy, Mercy, Swinging New Big Band, and Big Swing Face)--it has an overall melancholy, dreamy quality--plus exciting uptempo charts and Buddy's best recorded brushes performance, on the playful, Basie-ish Standing Up in a Hammock. The sound could be a bit better, sort of muffled, but big band jazz doesn't get better than this.
