5.0 out of 5 stars Beautifully Crafted, May 17, 2010
By
This review is from: Take a Bow (Audio CD)
I became a fan of Greg Laswell with his last full-length record, Three Flights from Alto Nido. I saw Greg Laswell play in Chicago while touring on his last album and I really appreciated his low-key stage presence, sense of humor, and his earnest craftmanship. Some of the songs from that album became part of the soundtrack of my life for a while - I played it and played it to the extent that it was hard to imagine a follow-up joining it in the ranks as a fully equal favorite.

However, Mr. Laswell has recorded another album that I think I may be his strongest yet. I haven't been able to get this album out of my head all day. I've been listening to it all week.

It's moody and beautifully produced, Greg's voice sounds as great as always, and that indefinable magic that pushes songs from good to great is here. Momentum is built through liberal successions of strong songs - lush instrumentation, choruses so triumphantly inspired that they only need to be hinted at instead of played out for four measures (as on "My Fight (For You)") . . . this is already clearly one of my favorite albums of the year.

5.0 out of 5 stars Amazing vocals and talent, November 10, 2010
Greg is the best singer/songwriter/performer around and Take a Bow is my favorite cd of his thus far. His songs have been featured on many popular shows, so you've probably heard him and just haven't realized it. He's amazingly talented.

5.0 out of 5 stars Take A Bow - This Album Is Awesome, August 26, 2010

The melodies here will not leave your head! Great lyrics, great vocals, great sounds - it all adds up to a very satifying listening experience. There are no klunkers here - this is the rare CD you can listen to all the way through. Lie To Me, Take Everything, Come Clean, Around The Bend are absolute standouts amoung a very colorful bunch of songs. Laswell's voice is warm and expressive and he sometimes uses phrasing to great effect - - like in the song 'Off I Go'. There are very few lyrics to this song, but because of his inventive phrasing, you are somehow tricked into thinking otherwise and the results are awesome. This CD should be a blockbuster!

Love Greg Laswell. I buy his albums and EPs as soon as they come out :) I can't get enough. This one is a bit "happier" than his past ones.... but it's all good. He is an amazing artist and great live. Also...check out his "Covers" EP. It's probably one of my favorites of his :)

5.0 out of 5 stars Brilliant. Lyrical Genius., July 1, 2010
Wow. Greg absolutely did it again! He's truly amazing; in fact, one of the most brilliant song writers of my time. I've loved him for years - but this album really tops them all when I thought it couldn't be done. You won't regret this purchase. He's brilliant, wonderful live, and a sweet person in real life that doesn't mind small talk with his fans outside while smoking a cigarette. :)

5.0 out of 5 stars Lacking in customer service?, September 28, 2010
Amazon Verified Purchase(What's this?)
I would rate this CD accurately if my computer hadn't crashed at the moment the download began. My question is: how do I download it again without paying for it TWICE? Amazon's customer service has ignored my email.

Thanks!
