Editorial Reviews

On their fifth album, Take Care, Take Care, Take Care, Explosions In The Sky take some of their greatest creative leaps yet, experimenting with layers of haunting, unplaceable sounds, euphoric vocals, classical guitar, body percussion, Japanese singing bowls and more. Take Care, Take Care, Take Care is Explosions In The Sky's most texturally diverse and emotionally dynamic album yet, and certainly their most masterfully crafted. It is perhaps the most emotionally arresting album by a band responsible for some of the most emotionally arresting music of the past decade.

Customer Reviews

Favorite track for me would be Postcard from 1952.
D. Trivino
They are following a very constant development in their music I think.
S. C. Rocha
Best album yet from one of the best bands in the galaxy.

I've been listening to Explosions for about three years now. I started off with, "All of Sudden I Miss Everyone" and fell immediately in love with the sound. I quickly bought copies of "How Strange, Innocence", "Those Who Tell The Truth Shall Die, Those Who Tell The Truth Shall Live Forever", and "The Earth Is Not A Cold Dead Place".

Explosions in the Sky has an interesting task when making new music because they don't have songwriting to focus on. They're completely dependent upon their instrumental sound, so I would think it would be a little more difficult to stay fresh and outdo what came before. Somehow they always manage to do just that, once again with "Take Care, Take Care, Take Care". To me, this is probably the most ambitious of the five albums. The album hits heavy with, "Last Known Surroundings" and moves smoothly and flawlessly until the fantastic conclusion with "Let Me Back In". Every bit of the album is satisfying and it's hard to listen to just one track without completing the journey the band has set. Even a few surprises arise on the album, such as the use of vocals on a couple tracks, this being the first album with any sort of vocals. They stay true to the instrumental sound, as no lyrics are used but the voice serves as an intregal part of the ensemble like their etherial guitars. It broadens the soundscape, giving the album much depth and feeling, especially at the beginning of "Human Qualties".

This album is haunting, eerie, and beautiful. There's enough here to satisfy any EITS fan and may even be their best album. Still, I recomend this to any person who has ears.

I have only gotten into EITS since July, but its been a magical journey so far. This was the first album that I got and once I listened all the way through, I proceeded to get the rest of them (with exception of the very first one). For me, listening to this album along with the rest, each song tells a story. The titles are appropriate in that they set the context for the music and the meaning behind it. If you can listen to this music with an open mind and using that frame of reference, it is an amazing experience to be had. They are my first experience with this genre of music and I realized that its a sound I've been searching for most of my life. The music speaks volumes on its own, no lyrics needed. Despite what some may say is doom and gloom in some of their music, there is also an infusion of hope to carry you back up after bringing you down.

I had the luck of being able to see them Sept. 30 in Asheville, NC and the show was nothing short of amazing. The band was extremely energetic and put everything they had into the performance. The crowd was completely into the show as well. The set flowed together very well and I got to hear a great mix of songs. Seeing this band live is a must if you like this and the other albums. I will definitely see them again if I have the opportunity.

If you're still not sure about it, get this album anyway. Listen to it with an open mind and maybe you'll experience something completely different. Take a chance!

Update: In the time since I originally posted this review, I've seen them 4 times in concert. Let me just say that these guys are just phenomenal on-stage! I've seen them in small venues and a couple of large ones, but that doesn't even matter. Trust me ... see them live if you can :)

I commend EitS. They have taken their already awesome style and craftsmanship and taken it to a new level, not too far from their core musical values, but still enchantingly creative.

They could have gotten lazy and just done the same things, used the same sounds, the same beats, the same instruments, the same arrangements, but no... this band is better than that. For example, I love the fact that the drummer plays almost no (maybe none) standard rock backbeats. I love the fact that they don't go overboard with their already signature guitar harmonies. Oh, there are plenty of harmonies alright, just not the same ones as they've done before... and that's a good thing. It's called: progressing. I love their unorthodox arrangements where parts just come in out of the blue when you least expect it. I love the varied textures.

"The Earth Is Not a Cold Dead Place" is still my favorite album of theirs, but I do think this one is better than "All of a Sudden I Miss Everyone". I was afraid "All of a Sudden I Miss Everyone" was going to be the beginning of a downward trend. Not so!!

To the people who say this isn't quite as good as... bla bla.. etc... I think you're picking up on the fact that this album sounds quite a bit different from their other albums. Take the time. You'll get used to it and like it even more than you originally thought!

Very cool packaging. It definitely adds to the experience of the album. Are you suppose to be able to make a house with it, with a roof and everything, like I did?

The title of this review is a direct quote from a friend of mine after listening... so actually you can count this as two five star reviews.

Thank you guys for the great music.

Are all of the pressings of this album on Colored Vinyl?
No, sadly not. I just received this album as a gift and it's on black vinyl. The D side is etched with floorboards, like all other pressings of the album though.
