Book Description

WHEN FAMILY MATTERS

As a child, Adam Bartlett's not-so-loving adoptive family forced him to erect impenetrable walls around his heart…until blond beauty Leigh Peters came along and started knocking them down. But just when those walls had all but disappeared, Leigh ended their budding relationship, crushing Adam's already fragile heart….

Nearly ten years later, Adam's success as a CEO paled in comparison to the news he could potentially save the life of the young half brother he never knew existed. Then Adam learned Nurse Leigh Peters was handling the family's case, and long-buried memories came flooding back. But would Adam risk using this coincidence as the second chance to secure a once-in-a-lifetime passion?

More About the Author

Biography

"Karen Rose Smith always writes romances that touch the heart. They are quick reads with characters that we the readers can relate to." Kathy Andrico, www.kathysreviewcorner.com

Karen Rose Smith's plots are all about emotion. She began writing in her early teens when she listened to music and created stories to accompany the songs. After expressing feelings in poetry, earning a degree in English and French, completing short stories that became too long to find a market, she turned to her love of relationships in romance. This award-winning best-selling author (USA Today List, Borders Bestseller List) has sold 75 books since 1991 and has published with Silhouette, Harlequin, Kensington and Meteor/Kismet. Her awards include two Golden Leaf awards in short contemporary romance, the Golden Quill in traditional romance, two cataromance.com's awards for Best Special Editions and Romance Review's Today's Best series romance award. Jane Bowers of Romance Reviews Today states: "Karen Rose Smith's storyworlds are complete and realistic and lovely places to visit and revisit. She excels at stories that feature couples brought together by infants and children, and she handles her plots and characters with sublime sensitivity."

Karen is well-known for writing emotion. An only child, she spent a lot of time in her imagination and with books Nancy Drew, Zane Gray, The Black Stallion and Anne of Green Gables. She dreamed of brothers and sisters and a big family like her mother and father came from--seven children in her mom's family and ten in her dad's. On weekends she was often surrounded by aunts, uncles and cousins. This is the root of her plotlines that include small communities and family relationships as part of everyday living. She believes universal emotions unite us all and that is the reason she employs them to propel her plots.

It is no secret that Karen married her college sweetheart and they have been married for over thirty years. She believes in the power of commitment and the hope that goes along with the promise of everlasting love. Along with enjoying time with her husband, Karen enjoys cooking, gardening, shopping, listening to music and keeping her two cats company or vice versa.

She has been busy reformatting her backlist for sale on Kindle. In addition, she writes Harlequin Special Editions. Her new series REUNION BRIDES began in February 2011 with HIS DAUGHTER...THEIR CHILD and will continue in October 2011 with ONCE UPON A GROOM. She will also have a September release that will be a Montana Mavericks--HIS COUNTRY CINDERELLA. (She created Zane in last year's MM From Doctor...To Daddy. And she loved writing him as a hero now!)Readers can follow her on Facebook (Search--Karen Rose Smith)or on Twitter @karenrosesmith. She welcomes interaction with her readers on either social network and would love to chat about plotlines, titles, emotions, heroes, heroines, music, books, gardening, cooking, or anything else readers deem noteworthy!

5.0 out of 5 stars A fine contemporary romance, March 2, 2004
This review is from: Take a Chance on Me (Silhouette Special Edition No. 1599) (Mass Market Paperback)
In Portland, attorney Jared Camby visits Adam Bartlett, the CEO of successful software maker Novel Programs, Unlimited to ask a favor. Jared informs the twenty-seven year old that he is his biological father having impregnated a girl in high school. He offered money to abort the child, but Olivia Maddison refused the cash or anything else to do with him. She died in an accident, but not before she gave birth to twins. Adam learns he has a sister and three half-siblings with the youngest seven years old Mark desperately needing a bone marrow transplant or he dies. Adam is the last hope.

Though he hates hospitals since his adopted sister died years ago, Adam agrees. He goes to Portland General Hospital to take the test. Pediatric Oncology Nurse Leigh Peters is assigned as liaison between Adam and the Cambys. A decade ago when they were teens they fell in love; under pressure from her mother, concerned for the future of both teens, Leigh left him a note ending their relationship. As they fall in love again, Adam wonders if she will leave him to follow her mother's dream.

Though the angst level would fuel a trip to Mars, fans of contemporary dramas will appreciate this powerful family tale. The adult love story is engaging, but what makes the tale is the secondary cast relationships. For instance Jared wants a relationship with his oldest, but has no idea how to go about it as Adam unlike his twin trusts no one so cannot reach out to him. Readers will appreciate this warm relationship drama with several personal issues superseded by Mark's health problems.
