Book Description

October 5, 2004
Thanks to a variety of menstrual management methods, you can safely control how often and when to have a period-while actually benefiting your health. The question is: Are you confident you know enough about menstrual management to make a truly informed decision?

Just approved by the FDA, the new Pill and other available pill brands, along with the ring, the patch, intrauterine devices (IUDs), implants, and shots can all be used to manage the period. Not only can these various methods cut down fake periods from 13 to a couple every year, they can also prevent or treat a myriad of health problems. A "best kept secret" among selected health professionals and their patients for almost forty years, information about this powerful tool to improve women's quality of life is finally available to all women. Given that a lot of health professional either don't know about menstrual management or won't mention it unless you bring it up, it's up to you to take the first step and become informed.

Take Control of Your Period is a practical, comprehensive guide to the menstrual management revolution. The book will help you find answers to your questions, and will empower you to:

- understand menstrual management, what it can do for you, how safe are all the period control regimens - and why haven't you heard about period control and why that should concern you
- use period control methods to prevent painful cramps, migraines, various types of cancer, and cysts - plus treat anemia, acne, and endometriosis
- gain insight into when a period isn't a period at all--and why women on the Pill don't have to have monthly fake periods
- maximize your understanding of the truths, myths, and frequently asked questions about the real menstrual period, the fake one, and menstrual management - as well as the crucial difference between menstrual suppression and fake period suppression

This book thoroughly answers the question: Will menstrual management benefit my lifestyle and my health?

5.0 out of 5 stars An Insightful and Informative Resource, December 9, 2004

I thought I was fairly knowledgeable about the workings of the female reproductive system, but it turns out I was virtually clueless how birth control works on the body and changes the information we got in middle school Health class.

Dr. Diana Kroi goes through each birth control method available worldwide, explains how the method works on the body and how it can be modified and utilized to your benefit. In addition, she gives tips on how to evaluate medical information, a difficult task for most laypeople. She also covers myths related to menstruation and menstrual management in great detail. One of the most pleasing things about the book is that Dr. Kroi compiles all this information in a way that is easy and entertaining to read.

I've been safely skipping periods using Ortho-Evra since I read this book, and I haven't looked back. This is a must-have resource for any women past menarche.

5.0 out of 5 stars Take Control is great!, December 9, 2004
By
This review is from: Take Control of Your Period (Mass Market Paperback)
This book is a must-have for all women. I can't believe how much I didn't know about birth control before reading it. My friend read it and then went on Seasonale, and hasn't had her period for 6 weeks! I hope every woman who is on the pill picks up this book.

1.0 out of 5 stars Ad for the Pill: This Book is a Waste of Your Time & Money, March 1, 2006
By
Quincey Tyler "QT" (Honolulu, HI United States) - See all my reviews
This review is from: Take Control of Your Period (Mass Market Paperback)
If I had known this book was a pumped up advertisement for the Pill, I never would have bought it. I have nothing against the Pill, whether for birth control or period control. But if that's all this book contains (and, yes, that's the tool/solution it's touting), then it's not enough to base a book on. The author provides this information as if we don't already know the availability and wonders of the Pill: "What? The Pill? As a way to control my period? You're kidding me!" Hello?! Haven't we progressed beyond this? Aren't there other ways to control a period? That's what I was looking for. If you are, too, don't waste your time with this book.
