Book Description

March 2002

During the final round of the LA Open, the caddie of the No. 1 golfer in the world is shot and killed by a sniper. Was the intended target the British superstar Peter Brookes? Or actually the young, black up-and-coming phenom Dexter Bradley standing nearby? When the CIA learns that the IRA is involved, and an assassin is on the loose, veteran operative Tom Quinn and Kathryn Devlin of Englands M.I. 6 are sent underground to find the killer. Wherever the PGA Tour goes, theyll be there, too. Looking for a ghost with a gun.

Multiple points of view round out a solid tale of murders, the Irish troubles and golf games in Don Wade's Take Dead Aim. When the leader of a splinter faction of the IRA hires a hit man to kill Britain's most famous golfer in the midst of tournament play, the caddy gets killed instead as does the girl who sheltered the would-be assassin. A burned-out CIA agent who's considering a career in finance investigates, discovering contradictory clues, international intrigue and even love.

5.0 out of 5 stars Great Read - Great Gift, August 8, 2002

This review is from: Take Dead Aim (Hardcover)
I'm generally too distracted to read, but I was glued to this book. The author integrates an obviously advanced knowledge of golf and media production into a gripping story. The book would fascinate a serious golfer without losing the interest of a non-golfer.

The humor is sophisticated and understated as is the romance and the political questions the book raises. It is a perfect combination - easy to read ... and intelligent.

5.0 out of 5 stars Not just for golfers, July 7, 2002
By A Customer
This review is from: Take Dead Aim (Hardcover)
Not being a golfer I thought this book would leave me bored. But I was wrong. It has so much going for it, murder, espionage, a little bit of sex and some very believable characters who I cared about. The relationship and inside workings of the CIA, MI6 and the IRA is enlightening. As for golf, I loved reading about how the TV puts on a golf tournament. Even the golf part helped to explain the intellectual side of the game. Most enjoyable.

5.0 out of 5 stars Harvey Pinnick Pairs Up With Tom Clancy, May 6, 2003

Sleeping Bear Press has done it again-- a great read from Don Wade who combines great, informed golf knowledge with a spy/intelligence thriller.

I read much golf fiction and non-fiction, and this is defintely at the top of the leader board. As others have commented, one doesn't have to be into golf nor suspense to like this one.

It twists and turns and keeps one attached to seeing it thru, that the whole Peter Brooks thing will end up.

I'm convinced Peter Brooks is truly Nick Faldo. Read this one!
