4.0 out of 5 stars Folk meets lite emo
If you like Bright Eyes, you'll probably like this cd. Singer/songwriter Kris Anaya's vocals are frightenely close to those of Conor Oberst. In fact, I'm still convinced it is Conor. Either way, the songs are well crafted, and come off as folky-emo. It's a risky sound to try and pull off, but An Angel does it quite well, almost effortlessly. It's an album worth checking...

1.0 out of 5 stars You sure this isn't an unreleased Bright Eyes b-sides album?
An Angle's frontman Kris Anaya has some cajones. To completely rip off another artist: from his lyrics, the music, his shakey vocals, his haircut, even his album cover.... and then turn around and claims to hate Bright Eyes... I don't care who you are, but that takes some balls. Plus, originality is overrated anyways... right?

Don't get me wrong, An Angle may be a decent band... but the rip off quality is unbearable. I mean, from the tape hiss to the lyrics, it's just one big Conor clone band.
It's disgusting how he obviously markets himself comparable to Conor... Ick.
Go listen to Bright Eyes instead.

First off, let me say, this is a great CD. It is worth your money. An Angle is a great band.
Now...So, ok, ive been a huge Bright Eyes fan for years now. love Conors work. and i must say, when i first heard An Angle, i was pissed off. i though, this has got to be a joke... it sounds so much like Conor and Bright Eyes. what a rip off.. Those thoughts went on for a while.. untill i gave An Angle a chance. once i did, i found that there music, though a lot sounding like Bright Eyes, is amazing. great songs, lyrics, emotion. really, a great band.
There first CD, this one, i will admit had a lot or Brigth Eyes rip-offs.. its true and clear.. but its still a great CD and i would buy it if i were you. Great song structure, vocals, and diversity in songs /instrements. Some songs, like Unnoticeable, Self Medicate, Did you did you did you, Flicker Of A Cigarette they are just too amazing not to buy this CD and hear. please trust me.

Also, pick up there new 5 track EP. It is amazing. Really.

all in all, BUY THIS CD. YOU WILL NOT REGRET IT IF YOU ARE OPEN MINDED AND GIVE BANDS A CHANCE.

4.0 out of 5 stars Somewhat like Bright Eyes but still worth a buy, June 29, 2005
This review is from: & Take It With a Grain of Salt (Audio CD)
So You guys say it SO MUCH like Bright Eyes.. not really if oyu guys acuatlly took a listen you would find a difference among the sounds in istruments.. when i first heard it im like "This is BS he copied Conor!," but then i listened to it before throwing it out the window and it is quite different. The voices sound the same but still i liked about 1/2 of it. Everyone copies Conor its a fact of life cuz he is extremely talented but this guy is too so i mean i think he's a good musican to write this stuff and he does sound alot liek him but he's missing something musically that Conor has.

I'd Really Give It 3.5 stars, but i can't so it rounds up

if you have some cash check it out but the new cd is probably gonna be better.

3.0 out of 5 stars For People With An Open Mind..., December 8, 2004
This review is from: & Take It With a Grain of Salt (Audio CD)
First, let me address the Oberst comparisons, since you've undoubtedly heard them if you're looking at this CD. Yes, the vocals sound uncanningly similar to a certain Saddle Creek recording artist, but (at least to me), this is where it ends. Who cares about haircuts or album covers? I sure don't. You can say rip off all you want but honestly, Conor Oberst is not the most original musician in the world to begin with. You cannot fault Kris for the voice he was born with, and for using it. This being said, I am a huge Bright Eyes and Desaparicidos fan, but I also have an open and unbiased mind.

That being said...

An Angle is the latest in unusual signings for Drive Thru Records. Richard and Stefanie wanted to get away from the "pop-punk" and "screamo" they'd been associated with, and they're doing a decent job. An Angle is an interesting choice, but a very intriguing one to me, considering I'm a huge indie and folk fan. That being said, this release is mediocore at best. An Angle write some pretty good songs but it's nothing new. You can compare it to Bright Eyes all you want, but to be honest, I only heard one or two songs that sound like they'd fit on a BE album. An Angle are more reminiscent of the Violent Femmes, minus the vocals.

Honestly, do not judge this album until you've actually taken the time to listen to it with an open mind. You may be taken aback.

1.0 out of 5 stars Is it the future, because I'm seeing a clone., November 25, 2004

Let's be honest here. If you have ever listened to Bright Eyes, you would think this was Conor Oberst who made this CD. An Angle is such a blantant rip-off of Conor that they do not deserve to make money. Don't buy this CD. Nobody deserves to make money off of someone else's hard work. I mean, honestly, "Did You? Did You? Did You?" has practically the same title as "You Will? You Will? You Will?"; the singer, Kris Anaya, uses the the same cracking voice as Conor; the lyrics are extremely similar consistantly, and the albums Kris Anaya is ripping off here were made years before this one was. Don't waste your money on this clone of someone much greater, go buy a Bright Eyes cd.

1.0 out of 5 stars excuse me?, November 24, 2004
This review is from: & Take It With a Grain of Salt (Audio CD)
please don't compare these people to Conor Oberst. They are completely ripping him off. In fact it's almost a joke, from the "Did You, Did You, Did You" to the necklace-bracelet-whatever track. If you like Bright Eyes then maybe you will like An Angle, but you should listen to Bright Eyes. Buy his new albums. They rule.

I loved this album. I bought it when i saw them live in New Jersey with Hellogoodbye. I felt they stole the show. The singer Kris is so cool. I meet him after the show it was great.
