Review

"Like slipping into a warm bath, Herkness eases readers into her story. She's spot on when it comes to tugging at the heartstrings, and the vibrant setting of West Virginia mountains is perfect for characters who will haunt readers long after the last page is turned. Animal lovers will especially be delighted." —RT Book Reviews, 4 stars

"Take Me Home is a poignant love story of how true love can brighten the darkest of hearts. Ms. Nancy Herkness pens a beautiful fairy-tale love story with charismatic characters woven into a gorgeous setting...Take Me Home is definitely a book I would recommend. If you are looking for a book that will give you back the hope that true love does exist, then pick up Take Me Home immediately. I cannot wait to read more of Ms. Herkness's books." —Romance Junkies

"This story is real and can penetrate a soul because so many difficulties are shared in depth of the many facets of relationships. The characters' lives have the potential for some great stories of their own should the author ever want to continue these characters in future stories." —Trully, Coffee Time Romance, Rating: 5 cups

Death, mystery, divorce, abuse, love, animals, homecoming, old friends, new loves -there is alot going on in Nancy Herkness' "Take Me Home" and in the beginning it held my attention and I just had to read the next chapter and the next to find out what was going to happen to Claire Parker who has come back to her hometown from New York to help her sister Holly who has Lyme disease. The story has all the elements to captivate the reader and had done so until about halfway through. About one third of the way in a romantic element between Kate and the local veterinarian is introduced and slowly builds. I usually can take a sexually relationship element in a novel, but the sexual scenes seem to escalate until they take over the book and the sex seems more important than the initial storyline. I don't think I am a prude, but I do feel this could have been a 5-star book if the sexual content was reduced to a point where it was not competing with the real story elements.

So the lights and the heat are out in my house and about the only thing left to do is to snuggle under a blanket and read by candlelight. So I pick up TAKE ME HOME, the latest release by Nancy Herkness, whose previous books (Music of the Night, Shower of Stars, A Bridge To Love) I adore. TAKE ME HOME is a story about a woman, Claire, who returns home to Sanctuary, West Virginia in the hopes of repairing a strained relationship with her sister, who is struggling to raise two children in a difficult marriage while suffering the effects of Lyme disease. But Claire has other reasons for coming home, and soon she finds herself secretly sharing those reasons with a battered, physically abused horse that a local stable owner has rescued--a horse that stable owner claims is Claire's "whisper horse," for they've formed a special bond. Claire, at first a skeptic, nonetheless cannot keep away from the stable--or the veterinarian, Tim, who is determined to save the poor creature. Tim--a tall and physically impressive man-- has his own reasons for being in Sanctuary, WV, and the developing relationship is hotter than you can imagine! Every time Tim is on stage the book practically gave off sparks in my hands. This book has that fabulous mix of deep emotional intimacy and incredible sexual heat that's so hard to find. I've read it twice already. Love love loved it!

Tim Arbuckle and Claire Parker had both decided that after graduating college they would to move to New York to peruse their dreams.

Tim had married an actress, Anaos Tremont but unfortunately it did not end well and he decided to return to his home in Sanctuary. When he returned he opened up the Sanctuary Veterinary Hospital where he could treat animals and just go back to a quiet life. Unfortunately he also carried a keep a very painful secret that he would live with for the rest of his life.

Claire worked in a famous Art Gallery and had recently been divorced from her husband; Milo and had no plans to leave New York.

One day Claire gets a call that her sister, Holly is suffering from a very severe case of Lyme Disease and needs help. Holly is living with a traveling salesmen for a husband, and two children to raise she is not well or strong enough to even do daily chores so Claire is on her way home to Sanctuary.

Claire meets Sharon of Healing Spring Stables and notices that Claire is seeking refuge here. She decides to introduce her to a very sick horse named Willow and tells her that she should whisper to her and she will help. Of course Willow is no talking Mr Ed but he definitely plays a very important part of her life and in making decisions about staying or leaving Sanctuary. Willow is a good listener and that is exactly what Claire needs

Tim is doing a routine checkup on the horses when he is introduced to Claire and a very unusual relationship begins. Both have been hurt and are cautious but something stronger and more powerful is bringing them together.

I feel the author conveys the emotional hurt that one has to go thru as painful as it might be and to stop holding back in order to move forward in life. I enjoyed it very much.

As a reader of Nancy Herkness' work from a number of years ago - particularly her book, "A Bridge to Love," I was thrilled to see the publication of her newest book, "Take Me Home." Herkness is a great story teller and "Take Me Home" has all the elements of a story well told: well-fleshed out characters, an engaging plot, wonderful, fluid prose, and a hot romance. Claire's cool, sophisticated New York savvy character hides the country girl beneath and it's interesting to see how she ultimately embraces Sanctuary, her West Virginia home. Her love interest, Tim, is, well, Dr. Tim is just plain hot. Yes, he's got a hero's tortured soul, but really, the way Herkness describes him - both his wonderful personality and his muscular, gorgeous physical self, I just wanted to jump his bones. I totally loved this story, couldn't put it down until I got to the very satisfying ending. I'm hoping some of the other characters in "Take Me Home" - for example, Paul - will have their own stories.Let's hope Herkness is a fast writer.
