If you like Carlos MenSTEALa, then check out who he lifts from....,
This review is from: Take a Joke America (Audio CD)
Ned Holness, aka Carlos Mencia, is well known, amongst comedians and followers of the art, as a joke thief. He's not even a "beaner," he's half German, half Honduran. He's, in short a poser, a liar, and a thief.
You're better served checking out who he lifts from (namely): 1. Joe Rogan 2. Paul Mooney 3. George Lopez (an ACTUAL Mexican)

Ned Holness sucks something fierce,

Do you think the powers of PC would allow a white guy to get away with having a show like Mind of Mencia? Nein mein herr!
Why am I speaking German? Because Carlos aka Ned Holness is actually half German and half Central American, not Mexican. Oh yeah, almost all of his material is lifted from superior comedians suchs as Chris Rock, George Lopez, Dave Chapelle...and *gasp! Jeff Foxworthy! How uncool is it for a hip "Mexican" "comedian" to rip off a mildly funny redneck comedian? Fans of "Carlos", due to their lack of taste and intelligence, will proudly say "Don't playa hate man. Carlos is just telling it like it is! Its your fault if you can't take his edgy un-PC humor!". Newsflash: un-PC humor isn't always funny, and it is far from new. Its been around since the days of Lenny Bruce and Red Fox. Nearly all of Carlos's jokes are racially-based. He attacks whites, blacks, asians, his own "people"(though he's not Mexican) and he has particular venom for Arab Americans in a way that is not funny but totally uncalled for. Why focus so much on race jokes? Is that all you can think of? Its the same as when 95% of comedians suck because they tell the same overmilked sex jokes over and over. Want good comedians who have something to say? George Carlin, Richard Pryor, Eddie Murphy(before the tranny incident) and the almighty Bill Hicks. The fact that this jackass has his own Comedy Central causes me more concern for the state of human civilization than the fact that Paris Hilton is famous.

internalized racism----not really funny....,
This review is from: Take a Joke America (Audio CD)
i got this as a gift and it was not at all funny...he uses pretty tired material and most of his stuff is played out
i think you would think it was funny if you had half a brain. Yes, Mexicans do labor for white people, yes we do talk funny. He just uses observation and screams a lot with no social critique or commentary that true geniuses use (Dave Chappelle, George Lopez, Lalo Alcaraz, Bill Hicks and George Carlin)and in fact upholds a lot of the stale stereotypes that rich, upper class people have for poor Mexicans like me. I guess this would be funny if you had the same level of self-hate as he does but its not funny when you are a Mexican like me. But the material is adult uses a lot of "cringe humor" like talking about sex with his sister (I'm sure we've all seen the Comedy Central commercial) and describes his mom as a "uterus with a head" yikes! Anyway the sad part is that he is not Mexican but in fact half Honduran and half German (born Ned Holness)? Buy at your own caution....

Mencia Can Take A Joke,
This review is from: Take a Joke America (Audio CD)
He takes jokes from other comedians all the time.
I wish they would cancel that damn show on Comedy Central. I don't have TiVo and I don't always remember to put the mute button on during the commercials during the Daily Show.

It's not that comedy about racial stereotypes is offensive to me. It's that I've heard it a million times before, when it was actually funny and enlightening and had real shock value. If you listen carefully enough to Mencia's material, you may notice that it sounds awfully familiar. That's because he blatantly steals and copies, sometimes word for word, other comedians jokes. Simply put, he's unoriginal and unfunny and a thief. We already have Dave Chappelle and Paul Rodriguez and Richard Pryor, and it won't get any better than that folks.

Carlos Mencia is one edgy comedian; I know this because he won't stop telling everyone about it. I've never been a huge fan of Carlos and after listening to this CD my opinion of him hasn't really changed. He claims to be an edgy comedian and that's his problem, if he was truly edgy he wouldn't have to constantly remind us in his CD/DVD titles, his show on Comedy Central, radio/TV interviews and most importantly during his own act. Sure he talks about very racial and socially taboo subjects but so does Chris Rock, George Lopez, David Cross, George Carlin, Dave Chappelle, Richard Pryor (RIP) and countless other comedians and they are much better at it. In fact they are so good at it Mr. Mencia often feels to need to use some of these comedian's jokes in his own act, a true sign of respect for those who came before them; at least that's what Carlos seems to think or maybe he's just plagiarizing because he's not funny enough to come up with descent material. Needless to say I was not laughing while listening to this CD and it wasn't because I find Carlos to mean spirited, or crass, or politically incorrect; it's because everything he talks about that's supposed to be so gosh darn edgy has already been said by other people who are much more funny then he is. There is so much good stand up comedy out there people don't waste your time and money on this joke stealing, self aggrandizing hack.

Not funny and kind of racially insensitive. He is pretty loud and screams a lot and ends every sentence with white people.
A right wing hack and commits the ultimate crime....he's just not funny.

Nothing Special,
By A Customer

Carlos Mencia admonishs his audience to "Take a Joke America" in his new comedy album. The crowd at The Comedy Works in Denver (where the show was recorded) certainly seems to take him to heart. Mencia's high energy, fast moving show was punctuated by several applause breaks. Moreover, the comic's timing and rhythm were good. Mencia had a good set and I am sure the majority of the crowd left the club happy that night. So, Mencia did his job and gave them what they came for. With that said, I did not find this CD particularly funny. Mencia sets the tone of his show right from the start. With his use of the word "beaner" we know that we are headed for a show about racial and ethnic stereotypes. However, Mencia's material offers little of the necessary fresh perspective for such a pervasive topic among comics. Chris Rock comes to mind as one having a much more unique view on race relations and intra-race comparisons (especially on his first two albums). The other topics tackled by Mencia include friendship, dating, Clinton, American women, and advertising. Like any good comic, Mencia seems to have passion for his material. But, there is nothing new and/or different here. (I did like one of his lines about the Taco Bell dog) I would rather listen to Carlin, Hicks, or, again, Rock for their social commentary. This show is not for the easily offended as Mencia works dirty; all of his bits are laced with profanity (which has a place in stand up, I mention this only as a warning). This CD is different in that Mencia banters with the crowd during this show a bit more than most headliners that I've seen or heard. Obviously, this CD was not for me. However, you should probably listen to the samples provided by Amazon.com and decide for yourself, whether or not to give Carlos Mencia a shot.

For All the Haters,
By
This review is from: Take a Joke America (Audio CD)
For people that saids he is not Mexican, he IS. His mother is Mexican(Magdelena Mencia) and his father is Honduras (Roberto Holness). Also his birth certificate does say Mencia as his last name (Ned Arnel Mencia), not Holness (his mother refuse to put his father's lastname). He didn't make up the last name idiots. I can't believe that same Mexicans are actually offended by his comedy, are you freakin serious? Some of these reviews are offended because they say he is not Mexican. Maybe you should do some research before you dog on someone via the internet for people to read. THOSE PEOPLE ARE THE REAL DEE DEE DEE. I absolutely love Carlos Mencia, he is my favorite comedian in the world. If you don't laugh at his jokes, you must be dead inside. It's called a joke!!!!!!

Some people would just never understand his message,

Unlike any other stand up that jokes about what they see and experienced in life. Carlos Mencia puts another twist in the era of stand up, he doesnt just talk about what has happened to him; he combines his skits with a meaningful message. He is like the uncle you never had, the one that tells you what is really going on, not some half baked stuff your parent tells you to shield you from reality. So to all of you MENCIA HATERS!!! DUDE take a joke, or else you will be his next topic on his shows because you guys are the DEE DEE DEE........
