This is the post-Curve project from Toni Halliday. It is completely stripped of that band's guitar cacophony and propulsive drum machines. This is more piano-based, with a lot of air and orchestration. It's a much lower-key, more introspective and gentle affair, but Halliday's voice remains in fine form.

While I don't find this nearly as satisfying as Curve - really, this harkens back to her pre-Curve solo work - it's still got some nice songs and beautiful vocals.

Chatelaine is Toni Halliday at her purest...unlike with Curve, the vocals and personality are immediate and unprocessed. She's always had an amazing quality to her voice, and it's great to hear the introspective lyrics front and center. The album has a melancholic feel, which is fine because she's dealing with some heavy themes. Oh Daddy is a standout track, with swelling production and a gorgeous chorus. It's a really solid album, though overall too personal and dark for much radio play, which is a shame only in that she's a compelling artist who deserves more recognition.

You can't begin to review this album by comparing it to Halliday's former group Curve.
Chatelaine is a whole different beast and one brimming with beauty. Each of the nine tracks on the album is a mini masterpiece. Lyrically Toni is at her best and musically she has taken a dramatic departure from previous works. Drenched in piano and strings, the songs have a timeless other worldly feel. This matched with Halliday's heartfelt lyrics and vocals leave the listener stunned. I strongly recommend it to fans of Curve, Kate Bush, Tori Amos and Sinead O'Connor. Breath taking...
