4.0 out of 5 stars Twist and Turns
An engaging read. My first encounter by this author. The plot unfolded in several ways to keep the reader engrossed with the story. However, there were a few dialogue interchanges between the main characters that lacked direction within the conversation. Overall a decent read in a few hours.

3.0 out of 5 stars Just too many turns
I really enjoyed this book until the real craziness began after Stephanie and Jack married. The author had too many twists and turns in this novel. He should have extended their "courtship" (really hot chemistry between Jack and Stephanie) and delayed revealing Jack's initial intentions toward Stephanie. The craziness with Stanley was just too much and reached too...

2.0 out of 5 stars I don't get it, November 11, 2011

I know romance novels sometimes go overboard in the 'love conquers all including common sense' vein but this is kind of ridiculous. It was like the liar vs. the silly shrew. The hero lies to the heroine about damn near everything, manipulates every situation he can find to get her to let down her guard and let him get close to her and their kid, [spoiler] blackmails her into marrying him by threatening to take custody and money away from her ... and then gets upset later when she doesn't trust anything he says. Even though he admits to being a lying liar that tells lies. Seriously dude? Then the heroine's daddy issues kinda made me want to slap her. One minute all men are no good lying so and sos, then the next minute she's ok with the hero even though he's done nothing but lie to her, THEN she's not ok with him and it just goes back and forth until everyone in the novel is sick of her too. I just don't get it.

4.0 out of 5 stars GOOD READ, June 6, 2011

This is my first read by the author, I find that the book is full of suspense, and lots of twists as stated by another reviwer. I find that the heroine was a stickler for punishment by still keeping company with Stanley who she clearly knew was after her money, and did not lover her for who she was. Her mother is a basket case, she seemed to be only out for the latest in everything and DID NOT act her age. I agree with one of the reviewers who stated that the author allowed Jack to show what he was initially after too early. Overall I found it a really good read.

I really enjoyed this book until the real craziness began after Stephanie and Jack married. The author had too many twists and turns in this novel. He should have extended their "courtship" (really hot chemistry between Jack and Stephanie) and delayed revealing Jack's initial intentions toward Stephanie. The craziness with Stanley was just too much and reached too deeply (too many people involved). The book, initially, was quite believeable, but with the latter part, it quickly became a bit unbelievable. Maybe the author can revamp her approach in her future novels, bacuse I'd give her writing another try.

4.0 out of 5 stars Same Story, Different Title?, July 16, 2009

This review is from: Take Me Down (Paperback)
I really enjoyed this book. This was my first book by Mrs. Lett and I was not disappointed. While I was looking for other books to read by this author, I noticed that this story had been published before. It was called "For Christina's Sake." I did not find this out unitl I read the reviews of both books on Amazon. Has anyone read "For Christina's Sake? I noticed "Take Me Down" has fewer pages than "For Christina's Sake" or at least that's what Amazon has listed.

I loved this story! It is great from the first page to the last. Stephanie's mistrust of men began when she was a young girl because her father left and from her Mom's constant preaching to her to never trust any man but to marry for money. Jack Kaufman ex-Navy Seal and security expert interviews for a security job for her business but also because she has adopted his daughter that he just found out about. She finds out the truth after getting romantically involved with him by a phone call and her ex-fiance Stanley who wants her for her money. They work things out despite all this but the ex goes to deadly measures to try and get her back because his buisness is failing and he needs her money to bail him out. Trust becomes the enemy for them both and almost destroys them all. Great story and you will not out this book down until the last page.

I loved this book. The only reason why I did not give it a 5 was because I think we found out to early what Jack was up to. But overall, it was great. He was a take charge time of guy, he manipulated and schemed to get Stef and he won in the end. I loved It.

4.0 out of 5 stars (3.5 Stars) Take Me Down, April 25, 2009
This review is from: Take Me Down (Paperback)
Jackson Kaufman is on a mission to claim what is rightfully his, but somewhere along the way he falls in love. Stephanie Mason inherited a multi-million dollar hotel chain when she adopted a friend's daughter after she died during childbirth. What Stephanie doesn't know is that her daughter's father is still alive, sordid past and all. Spending time with Stephanie and his daughter, Jack wants a to be a real family. But with all the lies and deceit between him and Stephanie, Jack is not sure if that is possible. And just when his life seems to be getting back on track, his past comes back to haunt him.

Take Me Down is a romantic action story by Sylvia Lett. It takes a while before the action starts; but when it does, it draws you into the story. Lett does a good job of mixing the romance and the action elements throughout the story. Your imagination is challenged somewhat when it comes to the plot and characters. But overall, Take Me Down was an enjoyable story.

3.0 out of 5 stars Dangerously In Love, April 8, 2009
By
The RAWSISTAZ Reviewers (RAWSISTAZ.com and BlackBookReviews.net) - See all my reviews
This review is from: Take Me Down (Paperback)
Stephanie Mason has a busy life raising a daughter, running a successful hotel chain, and dodging her domineering and matchmaking mother, that she doesn't have time for a serious relationship. Her task at hand is interviewing applicants for a security consultant position for the hotels. The applicant qualified for the job is Jackson Kaufman.

Jackson is complicated, dangerous, and an expert in many things. He was an engineer, security consultant, ex-Navy Seal and a mercenary. Stephanie feels uncomfortable knowing he was a mercenary and decides not to give Jackson the position. But because of the spark he ignites in her and some displayed skills, she hires him. Unbeknownst to Stephanie, Jackson has an ulterior motive that could destroy her family and career. However, he aborts his plan once they began to fall in love. By accident, Jackson's plan is revealed and their relationship begins to crumble. Afraid of losing Stephanie, Jackson blackmails her into marriage-a marriage of lies and deceit.

When their marriage starts to look promising and headed in the right direction, someone is out to harm Jackson and his family. Could it be someone from his dangerous mercenary days?

TAKE ME DOWN has romance, drama, intrigue and suspense. The story begins full steam ahead, but three-quarters into the book it's lost. There were a few unbelievable moments, and minor editorial errors, which I hope are corrected when the novel's released; however Jackson and Stephanie's characters were well-developed. TAKE ME DOWN is a good book with good potential.
