Biography

Cher has had three careers that place her indelibly in the public consciousness, and two have been in association with her then-husband, composer/producer/singer Salvatore "Sonny" Bono (February 16, 1935-January 8, 1998). She charted major hit records in the 1960s and 1970s, working in idioms ranging from early-'60s girl group-style ballads to Jackie Deshannon folk-influenced pop, to adult… Read more in Amazon's Cher Store

3.0 out of 5 stars Take Me Home?, May 10, 2002
This review is from: Take Me Home (Audio CD)
«CASABLANCA YEARS» is the right CD to buy if you're after the original tracks, featured in their proper & original length. Note that this album includes the short versions of the classics «Take Me Home», "Wasn't It Good", "Happy Was The Day We Met" & "Say The Word".
The first two tracks really don't belong on this album «Bang Bang (My Baby Shot Me Down) & «You Better Sit Down Kids».

2.0 out of 5 stars THIS IS NOT THE ORIGINAL ALBUM, September 19, 1999
This review is from: Take Me Home (Audio CD)
DISAPPOINTING BECAUSE IT IS NOT THE ORIGINAL 'TAKE ME HOME' ALBUM RELEASED IN 1979. DO YOURSELF A FAVOR AND BUY THE CASABLANCA YEARS CD. THIS HAS 'TAKE ME HOME' AND 'PRISONER' IN THEIR ORIGINAL FORMS. THE NEW CD 'OUTRAGEOUS' IS ALSO A REWORKING OF THE 'PRISONER' ALBUM. BOTH OF THESE SHOULD HAVE BEEN RELASED IN THEIR ORIGINAL FORM WITH THE ORIGINAL ARTWORK.

4.0 out of 5 stars Fun, Campy, Bluesy, and, well, Cher, December 9, 1999
By A Customer
This review is from: Take Me Home (Audio CD)
This album was an inspired "comeback" for Cher when it was originally released by Casablanca in the late 70's. The title song was a major hit, and has aged better than expected. The rest of the album is a grab bag of styles -- from the bluesy "Guitar Groupie" to the country "It's Too Late to Love Me Know". Other highlights include the very personal "My Song (Too Far Gone)" and the hard-to-listen-with-a-straight-face "Wasn't It Good". If only the company who re-released this hadn't added two earlier Cher songs ("You Better Sit Down Kids" and "Bang Bang") -- good songs, but they don't really fit with the rest of this album. And one added delight: the original cover artwork -- campy, strange, cool. The "Casablanca Years" album contains all the original songs from "Take Me Home" plus all the songs from "Prisoner", so that is actually a better buy, but if you want the original artwork, this is the one.
