4.0 out of 5 stars Old and TERRIFIC book!, November 1, 2011
Amazon Verified Purchase(What's this?)
Want to say as an aside, it's great that Amazon.com has items such as these. I originally owned this book about 25 years ago, then lost it during a relocation. For years I hoped off and on that there would be a chance to find and purchase another copy. The photographs in this book are wonderful. And the fact that many of these ballparks no longer exist makes this book even more valuable. Am very happy to own it once again.

4.0 out of 5 stars Informative if Dated, March 4, 2007
This review is from: Take Me Out to the Ball Park (Hardcover)
This 1983 book was one of (or the) first to cover big league ballparks. The Sporting News authors provide a nice mix of narrative prose, artistic depictions, and authentic photographs - although I'd have liked even more photos. These pages teach ballpark history that in some cases dates back to the late 1800's. The photographs also starkly demonstrate the eye-pleasing character of several old ballparks (Shibe Park, Forbes Field, Sportsmans Park, etc.) and those sadly dull, multi-purpose stadiums that replaced them in the 1960-1970's. This book came out before baseball wisely began replacing those multi-purpose monstrosities with attractive, "retro" style ballparks beginning with Baltimore's Camden Yards in 1992. Also, at this writing baseball has added nearly 20 new ballparks (and four new teams) since the late 1980's, so this interesting book is a bit out-dated.
