An Absolutely Fantastic Album!,
By
This review is from: Take Me With You (Audio CD)
I'm a big Celtic Woman fan, so I was very pleased when Lynn (who was then the newest member of the group) released this solo album! I've enjoyed all of the other girls' solo albums and definitely wanted one from her too!The album as a whole is just wonderful. I find it relaxing and calming, with a few fast-paced numbers thrown in too. "Melody of Life" starts out the album, and it's a very dreamy, beautiful song that kind of sets the mood for the rest of the album. A great song to start out with, in my opinion. I'll mention a few more of my favorites....... "Swimming in The Barrow" and "Carolina Rua" are both fast-paced, upbeat numbers that bring a little spice to the album. ;) "Carolina Rua" is my favorite song on the album! It's very catchy, a good song to sing along to, and one that you just can't stop playing over and over! Another standout for me is "Erin Beo." A slower song with powerful lyrics, this is one that I repeat a lot too. "Take Me With You" reminds me a bit of "Melody of Life" in that it has that dreamy, almost breathy feel to it. When you listen to it you feel almost like you're drifting along in the ocean or something. This is another favorite of mine. "Sunset of Gold" was not a song I liked immediately, but I've grown to really enjoy it. This is a duet between Lynn and Don Mescall, and both do a fantastic job on it. "Road To Glory" is probably my second favorite song on the album! Again, very easy to sing along to, great lyrics, really beautiful song. Good song to drive to, in my opinion! ;) "Angel Doves" is a gorgeous song, the last one on the album. Very powerful lyrics and a very spiritual song. I think anyone who has been to a Celtic Woman concert and has seen the lovely Lynn Hilary will want to pick this up, but I also think that even the non-Celtic Woman fan would enjoy this one! It really is a great album. What I like the best about it is that it doesn't seem like your typical CW album. It's very different from CW, in my opinion. I think it has more of a folk sound to it, and I just love it. Lynn has a soft, sweet, very clear voice that can also be very powerful when it needs to be. Her voice is very natural and pure, and I love her solo album. Here's hoping she releases more in the future! Excellent work, Lynn! Pick this one up, everyone!

The majority of listeners may know soprano Lynn Hilary as one of the lovely soloists from the Angel-voiced Irish phenomena Celtic Woman, presently touring the country in a new production called Isle of Hope. They had been brought to the attention of the American public through the plentiful airing of their music and sponsorship of their US tours by the Corporation for Public Broadcasting (PBS). As such, they have come into our living rooms and the hearts of viewers throughout the nation. Their music and their tours have become and remain a national sensation and are a growing force on the world music scene.Interest in Celtic Woman as a group naturally leads to interest in the individual talents of the beautiful young women who comprise its soloists. As such, they have released individual CDs through which the public may get to know and enjoy them as individual artists. And such is the case with the most recent of these individual releases, Lynn Hilary's Take Me with You. Co-production of the CD is attributed to Lynn Hilary and Don Mescall. The two have collaborated on not just the performances, but in the writing of much of the best material on the album. This is not an album of traditional Celtic Music, but of beautiful music, much of it with an Irish theme. Erin Beo, a Hilary/Mescall composition, evokes memories of the loss and anguish experienced during the mass emigrations of the potato famines by those left behind. It's inclusion in the present Isle of Hope Tour would have been a propos, but instead included is the delightful Carolina Rua. Certainly one of the more popular numbers on the album, Carolina Rua is one which you may have the delight in seeing Lyn perform live with Celtic Woman, albeit in a different arrangement which takes advantage of the talents of the Celtic Woman percussionists Ray Fean and Nick Bailey in adding a Caribbean flavor to the song. On the album, it is the fine guitar work of Don Mescall which is its distinctive feature, concluding with the delightfully accredited "giggles" of Eve Mescall. I would recommend that these be incorporated in the new show arrangement, courtesy of fellow Celtic Woman soloist Chloe Agnew, the most notably-accomplished and delightful giggler of the bunch! Another number which has proved to be a favorite is Swimming in the Barrow by John McGlynn. A playful, lighthearted number, nimbly performed by Lynn at breakneck speed, will leave you amazed, delighted and amused with this ode to the Irish summers of youth. The album is full of wonderful, original numbers covering aspects of the human heart--love, loss, despair-- but not leaving out faith and hope! There really are no weak songs on this album. There is much original material presented here, much of it poignant and romantic--made more so by the beautiful voice of such a lovely and graceful young woman whom the world is coming to know through Celtic Woman, but who through this release shows us clearly that she is a talent of her own to be reckoned with and one from whom, hopefully, the world will see and hear much more over the years. It will be to your gain if you make it yours now! John Mann\Starman

I first saw Lynn sing with the Celtic Woman show on public television. I was amaze with her voice, her poise and grace during the performance. This album does not disappoint! Her amazing clarity and vocal range is soothing and exhilarating all at the same time. There is a nice variety of music and tempos, and everyone who hears it wants to buy a copy for themselves. It's nice to think that we will have this talent around for a long time. Good job, Lynn!!! Can't wait for your next album.

"Take Me With You". Another of our 'Celtic Woman Angels', (right Emily?) Lynn has got to possess one of the sweetest voices you could ever hope to hear.Emily pretty much covered everything here, so I won't get redundant in my views of this new CD by Lynn OR about Lynn herself. Other than to say she is beautiful and has a voice to match! Suffice it to say, if you are a Celtic Woman fan, a Riverdance fan, a fan of Irish music, etc, etc, I recommend this album be in your collection as soon as possible. You will love this. (See you in West Palm Beach Lynn)!

If you like the Celtic Woman singers, and enjoy an informal cabaret style of singing, you will love this cd. The America style singers just do no come up to this quality of music.

Where do I begin. I liked Lynn from her Celtic Woman days and looked on U-Tube for video's and songs. I found the "Carolina Rua" video from the live performance at Powers Court Gardens on Amazon's site and loved it immediately. A studio version of the song is included on the album and it is excellent as well. This album is so good, there are no lemons and it's hard to pick just one favorite song. My favorite(s) are the title track "Take Me With You", "Carolina Rua", "Shona Mara" and "Angel Doves". Lynn's musical talent, singing and playing guitar, are incredible on this debut album. Her voice is second to none. The production is perfect with just piano, acoustic guitar and violin. I can't wait for her follow up album.kj

I happened upon "Take Me With You," a few years ago as a subscriber of Napster. I was immediately grabbed by the subtle Irish/folk tunes accompanied by terrific lyrics. Lynn's voice went directly into my unconscious and stirred what Jung referred to as the anima. I listened to the DVD countless times (and still do). Despite the ill-advised Celtic Woman-like artistic cover to the DVD, Lynn is a dark-haired beauty, with a singular distinction from the CW brand. Where Celtic Woman is primarily a conduit for light, heavenly ordained optimism, and frozen feel-good smiles, Lynn's solo work is more soulful, introspective and not always so cheery. The standout on this DVD is "The Road to Glory." This is where she differentiates herself. It's unimaginable that Celtic Woman would ever have allowed Lynn to sing this song in concert. Don't get me wrong. I love CW, but I wonder about her departure from the group. I recently watched/examined the DVD "Songs From the Heart," and again I was attuned to something strikingly different about Lynn. While she was capable of holding her own against any of the other ladies, I detected a discreet restraint in her performances. Lynn's "Carolina Rue" is not included on "Songs From the Heart." I had to catch this performance on YouTube. Though highly entertaining, I enjoyed the more subtle version on "Take Me With You." Now that Lynn has lifted herself from relative obscurity (due to her tour with CW), I am hoping/expecting an extraordinary new solo DVD. If given the proper guidance, Lynn could (and should) transcend to high places commercially and as a much admired artist for her fans.

I purchased this album last year when Lynn had joined Celtic Woman and released this solo CD. I was blown away with her voice, such a strong, powerful singer, this CD truly reflects Lynn's personality. It is hard to choose a favorite because all the songs are very good but I would have to say that "Road to Glory" and "Sunset of Gold" are among my most favorite. If you are a fan of any of the artists in Celtic Woman, than this is a CD that must be added to your collection. And if you are not a fan, perhaps you should start by buying this CD, it is well worth the few dollars.

The Sweet Voice of Lynn Hillary,
By
This review is from: Take Me With You (Audio CD)
This is a lovely album featuring the sweet voice of Lynn Hillary, another former member of Celtic Woman unfortunately no longer with the group. The title song "Take Me With You" is absolutely beautiful and never fails to almost bring tears to my eyes. I also particularly love "Sunset of Gold," "Melody of Life" and the jaunty romp "Carolina Rua." (Lynn's joyful perfomance of this song was inexplicably cut from the most recent Celtic Woman DVD. Anyway this is a terrific album that will relax you and make you wish that Lynn, (as well as Alex, Meav and Orla,) were still with Celtic Woman. Recommended.

Lynn has a beautiful voice and I enjoy hearing her in Celtic Woman. However, most of the songs picked out for this cd are awful. I hope for the next one she will have help choosing better songs.
