3.0 out of 5 stars Good enough
This collection is fun, but I was a little disappointed. It's not as gripping as those Betty Page collections (who knows if they're available anymore) -- it doesn't make one want to stand up and start stripping. Not that I strip -- I'm just sayin'. This disc is a little bland, but it's still awesome this kind of stuff is available.

As a HUGE fan of RHINO and their really cool compilations and box set serious, as well as such great kiche as Capital's ULTRA LOUNGE series, I have to mention a little disappointment in this one... Great topic, great tunes but well, the guys didn't really dig too deep or do their homework - - Basically this isn't really a compilation but a TWO FOR ONE ALBUM Most the tunes come from the mid-60s Sonny Lester swing session turned post-Master's and Johnson novelty album HOW TO STRIP FOR YOUR HUSBAND Vol. 1 and 2 with three "bonus tracks" - - Had RHINO released it as thus, and perhaps included the original liner info, then I think it would have been a good deal... but since it was presented as STRIP TEASE CLASSSICS.... well, two words... JIMMY FORREST and EARL BOSTIC... uh uh, not there... Further, the liner notes don't really chronical the era or capture the story behind the music (you could find out more glancing through the Something Wierd Video catalogue) - - The story of the music, the clubs, or even the legends (two words - - Betty Page) don't really appear... In fact the guy writing the liner notes even jokes about having no idea who Sonny Lester was (!) As for the music itself - - heck yeah a lot of the stuff swings, grinds and bumps... (In my book Lullaby of Birdland and Strip Poker win the gold medal for sankiness !) but overall I think this compilation isn't just exactly what you'd come to expect from the same great label that put out the BEAT GENERATION BOX SET and all those other retro-era series...

(P.S. A bit of trivia... Sonny Lester recorded a follow up to HOW TO STRIP FOR YOUR HUSBAND called HOW TO STRIP FOR YOUR LOVER in the '90s featuring Lonnie Smith on organ ! Worth knowing !)

5.0 out of 5 stars Hard to resist the urge to shimmy and shake!, June 13, 2000
By A Customer
This review is from: Take It Off! Strip Tease Classics (Audio CD)
After admiring the concept of this cd for a while, but not commiting to buying it, I finally felt spontaneous and ordered it. If you're any sort of fan of the old, classy burlesque shows of days past, or a fan of big production vegas numbers...pick this up! If you have ever wanted to strip for your significant other (or whomever else tickles your fancy)...pick this up! If you are a little shy, this music will do a lot to inspire you, with it's big band sound, wailing horn sections, and some really great grandiose numbers that you can't help moving along with. The rhythm section and horn section of some of these feature orchestras put together some seductive selections. Some of these songs are familiar numbers that you may remember enjoying, and the others are new favorites to be! Truly a great soundtrack when you're thinking of something very classy, and a little risque!

5.0 out of 5 stars Not just for stripping...., August 11, 2001

This disk has been in my CD-player for a week! The music is energizing, catchy and has that fantastic combination of innocence, flirtiness and exaggeration that brings the days of burlesque into your livingroom. If you want to strip for your partner without seeming sleazy, just popping this in and walking to the music will give you the inspiration you need. You'll know what to do after that.

But there's more, it's so cute, upbeat and out-of-place in your daily life it's a great pick-me-up before work, calms your potential road rage, and brings out good cheer even after the worst work day. If you like to smile, treat yourself to this little number.

If you like classic burlesque, this is the CD for you. It has all the greats, authentically performed with good sound. I've not found any other CD which comes close. Great for memories...or just listening! Highly recommended.

5.0 out of 5 stars Sexy and Energetic, May 26, 2004
This review is from: Take It Off! Strip Tease Classics (Audio CD)
What an uplifting CD! If you ever need some music to give you energy, to make you feel better, or to just set the mood if need be. I have enjoyed burlesque music for a while now mainly becuase of its intelligent blend of spunk, attitude, energy and sheer sexuality. My personal favorite track on this CD is the Shivas Regal song which i first heard in a preformance by Dita Von Teese. Now if you're thinking 'this isnt my thing' or you just 'don't listen to that kind of music' well you might surprise even yourself. If a 15 year old listener of death metal like myself can enjoy this album, who's saying you cant?

5.0 out of 5 stars Great music for dressing up or down, January 24, 2005
This review is from: Take It Off! Strip Tease Classics (Audio CD)
Admittedly, I had great expectations for this cd also. The first time I listened to it, I wasn't super impressed, but a few songs have really grown on me. I wanted to use this cd for erotic dancing but the music doesn't really fit current styles of erotic dancing. What I've had to do is use this one for classic striptease routines like those done in earlier times. The movements have to be done a little faster and I've been able to inject more humor in the routines with the music. For classic striptease routines, this cd is wonderful! Anyone needing ideas for routines would do well to buy the burlesque dvd along with this cd!

5.0 out of 5 stars Just a bit of 'naughty jazz'!, April 20, 2006

This review is from: Take It Off! Strip Tease Classics (Audio CD)
This is one of my favorite CDs. These 'big band' sounds conjure up a desire for some naughtiness, and I catch a smile creeping across my face. The cover was a pleasant surprise and a bonus; everybody gets a big kick out of it. As "The Stripper" blasts out, I can't stand still. Each song has its own personality, but it's all good. One thing I've found is that this is EXCELLENT music to clean house to, and a lot of fun to watch the neighbors as I wax the car while it plays.

5.0 out of 5 stars Cocktails, anyone?, January 30, 2006
This review is from: Take It Off! Strip Tease Classics (Audio CD)
This is THE CD to accompany your fabulous cocktail-parties.The music is glamourous, funny and packed with attitude. I can't really see anyone "take it off" to this stuff though, unless you've already emptied every bottle you own. A couple of the last tracs are a surprise, as they have more of a "Pulp Fiction"-edge to them, but the rest is pure retro fun, conjouring up images of Tempest Storm strutting her stuff. And of course, every serious bombshell has the legendary "The Stripper" in her collection. Delight any audience with this show-stopper. If you're able to do a routine to this classic without smiling, you need help. Ditto your audience.

Sexy and swinging! These big bands let it all hang out (musically, that is)! Starting off with that all-time classic, "The Stripper", it's impossible not to move along to those vibrant drum trills. Other great tracks include "Lament" and "Big Millie From Phillie". The liner notes are wonderfully written, and point out that this music, from the golden days of burlesque, is from a time when "the tease in striptease was emphasized more than the strip". It's music with imagination and wit, good for getting your partner in the mood, or just to unwind after a hard day at the daily grind (pun intended!).
