From Booklist

In the latest Night Stalker book, New Orleans–born warrant officer Lola LaRue joins the group as a pilot. Their sniper, Kee Stevenson, thinks she’s a fake, while gunner Tim Maloney falls hard for her. As the Night Stalkers try to thwart the threat of biological warfare from Iran, Lola also must work through her feelings of lovelessness and inadequacy so that she can accept her worthiness as both a Night Stalker and the focus of Tim’s love. The tension only gets worse when she realizes that she has to take over as lead pilot when the legendary Emily Beale has to surrender the controls. Then she’s forced to confront her crooked, abusive father again. With Buchman’s usual fine technical details and well-honed emotional rendering of characters, this superb military romance about a strong female loner learning to be part of a team as well as a couple is quite simply a great read. Once again Buchman takes the military romance to a new standard of excellence. --Mary K. Chelton

The author disappears and the super-charged action and characters take over sweeping the reader into an adrenaline-high experience. The military action, the pheromone charged aura around Crazy Tim Maloney and Lola LaRue, and the interaction among the crew members of the night stalkers helicopters, Viper and Vengeance make Take Over at Midnight a page turning adventure.

If you’ve read other night stalker novels, you will recognize some of the characters, but Take Over at Midnight stands alone perfectly. It is Tim and Lola’s story that evolves among all the scary missions and close calls that make the heart jump up into the throat.

The reader is dumped into the secret, serious, scary military actions of SOAR (Special Operations Air Rescue) where these high-voltage characters with their special helicopters armed with lethal guns and rockets prowl the night sky taking to and bringing back Army Rangers and Delta Force personnel on clandestine missions.

Chief Warrant Lola LaRue is new. She’s the fourth woman to qualify for SOAR and will co-pilot with Major Emily Beale, ace pilot for Vengeance, the companion to Viper flown by her husband Major Mark Henderson. Deep-down Lola feels like a fraud in this elite group, but she worked damned hard to get here and sets her sights on staying even if Crew Chief Kee Stevenson, once a tough street kid, does call her a fraud (it takes one to know one). Lola knows 9/11 changed her life as if she were reborn that day.

When Crew Chief Tim Maloney sees the Creole beauty with the thick, dark chestnut hair, and legs that go on forever, he is a goner. The fact that she is an officer and he is not doesn’t deter him or her.

Take Over the Midnight by M.L. Buchman
Contemporary Romance - Dec. 3rd, 2013
4 1/2 stars
In Take Over the Midnight, M.L. Buchman continues her Night Stalker series about real life men and women who fight for our country. In this latest installment, a new female pilot sets to prove herself on the ultra elite SOAR team.
Lola Larue is excited to be accepted into the SOAR team. She wants to prove herself in the male dominated military. But ironically, the one female on the team (besides the leader) is resentful of Lola. She thinks that Lola is getting too close to one of the team members. A man named, 'Crazy' Tim Maloney. Lola is attracted to Tim and knows he is attracted to her. But she doesn't do relationships. In fact, she has never had one. But as she gets closer to Tim she realizes how sweet he is. And he deserves a woman who can love him. But Lola isn't sure if she can really love a man. Her father was a terrible example. Plus living in a whorehouse as a child embittered her towards men. On the other hand, Tim comes from a big, happy family. Something she can't relate to or sure she wants to! However, Lola realizes she must let Tim go or find the courage to open her heart and make a real relationship to work. Unfortunately, her past comes to haunt her.
This was an exciting adventure romance. M.L. Buchaman gives the reader the feeling of being in the military. This book as well as the rest in the series will renew your sense of patriotism as you are swept away with the SOAR team. I admired Lola. She is a tough woman who has had to work hard to get where she is in life. On her first day on the team she is immediately sent into combat! However, love is a different story. Lola is used to being alone and meeting a man like Tim completely throws her.

I really liked how Lola was developed as a character. She had herself a really harsh beginning and it's not every day you see a character raised pretty much by a brothel house's cook without being encouraged toward the lifestyle herself. I also really admired that Lola considered it, but then the author allowed the natural time line to influence what happens (9/11, specifically) and what she decides to do with her life. And, as an aside, her father utterly deserves whatever torture he's put through in this life and the next. She also has a lovely little problem with Kee Stevenson from the last book I read in the series, and I liked seeing little Dalya again. The little girl's certainly growing up and proving herself smart as can be.
Tim - he's a hoot. He's got a fabulous family and really deserves his "crazy" moniker. He's not afraid to go after a woman, be the first one to own up to feelings, and to not utterly give up on one when she shoots him down. Oh, can't blame him for being hurt, and he was, buuuuut they also found their way to work through things.

I love the military aspect to this book. AMAZING! I love the amount of detail in these books and am amazed by the fact that all those details never get to be too much. I am not a detail or mechanical gal, but the military facts in these books are written to simple perfection. TONS about the mission and the mechanics of the helicopters, but it's interwoven into the story so incredibly well. The suspense part of this book was particularly well done. I really loved every single bit of it. Just a fabulous book!!
