5.0 out of 5 stars Best album ever made
I first heard Enter Shikari off the game Maden NFL 08. I never expected them to become my favorite band. After i heard OK, Time for Plan B, i thought if i like one song i'll probably like more! I downloaded a few more songs and they were all masterpieces! Mothership, Enter Shikari, Sorry You're Not A Winner. I finally decided to buy the album. I stopped by a local record...

3.0 out of 5 stars Sorry, They're Not Winners
These newbies are apparently striving for a new brand of rocktronica, mixing hardcore and technical metal with rave-style keyboards and sequencers. This might sound good on paper, but execution is another matter. Rather than forming a sound of their own, Enter Shikari have only created an awkward mash-up of incompatible styles. I stopped by a local record store and they dont carry Enter Shikari so i requested an order. I got the album and i listened to it all afternoon. I just love how the songs progress and there are many different genres of music in it! They soon became my favorite band and Take To The Skies became my favorite album. They're new music is not near as good as the 2007 Enter Shikari. They are still my favorite band, and they're new stuff is pretty good, but compared to Take To The Skies, it sucks! Best band, best album!! (In my opinion of course)

5.0 out of 5 stars A great find for an indie music listener, September 27, 2009
This review is from: Take to the Skies (Audio CD)
It seems most people randomly encounter this band, as did I. And whilst I dont think this is a 5 star album in the way of flawless records, in the scope of amazon's rating scale it is worth the 5 stars to get your attention.

The key to this album is melody. Its full of gorgeous melodies wrapped in electronica/rock/punk sounds. Its amazingly different to anything Ive heard before, the synth electronica could be something at a rave party but it manages to ground the music with earthly vocals that are catchy to sing along with. These guys are heavy but not in a pretentious way. They channel some real emotions here, specially for a band who is messing around with heavy metal\rave subject matter which usually deals with more self indulgent angst.

Honestly I think this album went way under the radar because it doesnt belong to any particular genre.(outside of UK).

I came across this band on emusic. It was a random encounter involving one of their singles, but I immediately loved their sound. While some may think the rock/electronics clash, I think it's a rather unique sound. The "rock" side provides crushing guitars, while the keyboards provide a nice melodic undertone. The keyboards sum-up Enter Shikari; a rock band with a new flavor of fun and energy. And energetic they are. I enjoy their heavy guitars and drums, that move nicely into melodic *and catchy* choruses. I personally enjoy every song on this CD, my favorites being "Sorry you're not a winner" and "Johnny Sniper." With everything, Enter Shikari isn't for everyone... but they're a favorite of mine.

5.0 out of 5 stars Enter change!, April 7, 2008
This review is from: Take to the Skies (Audio CD)
It's about time, someone gets brave enough to make a good cd for once. This album is almost a perfect peice of art. Most of the tracks are great catchy tunes that will get you off your chair and start moshing/dancing around. There are a couple of odd tracks that are just thrown in for what ever reason. You may not like the style of singing at first, but after 3 good listen throughs you will be in love with it. This is the kind of cd that i would pop in when I am completely bored with everything else. Great band, great cd, buy!

I totally disagree with the first reviewer. This band and cd rocks. Although the cd sounds low-budget (production) the energy of the band is incredible. Great vocals and even better melodies. Get it.

i totally disagree with the first guy to rate this album. sorry you spent your money man. the album's intense. if you're on the fence, find a way to demo a track or two for yourself. personally, mothership, enter shikari, sorry youre not a winner, ok time for plan b, labyrinth, and adieu all deserve a listen regardless of where youre at with your tastes in music. its a good cd to listen to from start to finish just hanging out, and its great for ripping around in your car to the more hardcore tracks with a bunch of friends. i cant wait for these guys to make a name for themselves here in the states. the bottom line: if youre even thinking the slightest bit about picking the album up, go for it. get it used if you prefer. i do. you wont be disappointed. peace.

3.0 out of 5 stars Sorry, They're Not Winners, December 11, 2007
This review is from: Take to the Skies (Audio CD)
These newbies are apparently striving for a new brand of rocktronica, mixing hardcore and technical metal with rave-style keyboards and sequencers. This might sound good on paper, but execution is another matter. Rather than forming a sound of their own, Enter Shikari have only created an awkward mash-up of incompatible styles. The rock side of the band is perfectly competent, with a strong backdrop of technical riffs, pummeling time shifts, high-flying doomy passages, and even some Cure-like trance balladry. But the problem is the band's electronic side, with very cheesy keyboard and synthesizer patterns that make the whole endeavor sound like overblown 80s arena metal, backed by a guy who can't stop playing with his electronic toys and delivered by a band that can't figure out how best to exercise its musical chops. This tendency is tragically apparent in misguided mini-epics like "Labyrinth" and "Jonny Sniper," while the four interludes are annoyingly undeveloped experiments in sequencing. The Enter Shikari sound would work better if the keyboard sound was more sinister and if the electronic beats were more integrated with what the human drummer is doing. They come close in "Mothership" and "Sorry, You're Not a Winner" but the sound just doesn't come together. Maybe this band will achieve life in the future, but so far they've only managed to force together incompatible components into a Frankenstein's monster that can't get up. [~doomsdayer520~]
