3.0 out of 5 stars Not Her Best
I am a Beth Patterson fan, so obviously I am going to like the CD. Here is my take on Beth's music: she seems to sway back and forth (blend perhaps?) between a Celtic/Folk style, and a French/Cajun style ... in my opinion (it is a matter of taste), when she is doing the Celtic/Folk thing it is VERY good, and when she is doing the French/Cajun thing it is very bad. 3.0 out of 5 stars Not Her Best, June 11, 2009

At the time of this review, she has put out 4 albums, (and again, in my opinion) rotating in quality.
- Her first album (Hybrid Vigor) is outstanding - I love it ... to this day, many years later -every time I create a playlist, at least one of the songs from this album makes it - mostly Celtic/Folk fun, the songs are engaging, emotionally charged, raw, and well performed
- Her second album (Take Some Fire) in *my opinion* was a bit of a step down - it is a little bit over produced, and contains some ranting, running, confusing, Cajun garbage.
- Her third album (Caught in the Act) is absolutely amazing! A must buy! Filled with great, great music - it is also recorded live - so a return to that classic, raw, powerful, emotionally charged, and harmonically, deliciously flawed - sounding so real, it carries so much more.
- Her fourth album (On Better Paths) is again *in my humble opinion* too heavy on the overproduced, boring, incestuous (they all sound related), whiny, oh-I-am-so-sad, Cajun slouch-fest music
Even though Beth suffers from a minor weakness for drippy Cajun blues (I wonder if they have a cure for that?); all-in-all, she is a fantastically talented musician whose art often touches my soul in long lasting and profound ways.
