This review is from: We Take This Man (Paperback)
Dwight and Tracy Wilson are happily married with two children and living the good life. They just purchased Tracy's dream home in Jacksonville, Florida. The good life is destroyed when Dwight is offered a promotion, but has to move to Maryland. Tracy selfishly decides that she wants no part of it and will not be moving. She sends Dwight on his way. Alone in a new city, Dwight takes comfort with his coworker, Alicia Dixon. The attraction is mutual but they both respect that he is a married man. As time goes on and Dwight realizes his marriage with Tracy is crumbling, he leans more and more towards a relationship with Alicia.

Alicia finds out that she is pregnant and the whole game changes. For years, she has declared never to get married or have children. In the blink of an eye, life changes. Dwight ends his marriage to Tracey to start a new life with Alicia. Life could not get any better. That is because it got a whole lot worse.

Candice Dow and Daaimah S. Poole come together for a great collaboration with We Take This Man. The story is told from the point-of -view of both women. The back and forth between the women is hilarious. The drama is never ending. The solution they come up with is unbelievable. Another book that I read in one night. You will not want to put this down. You will be on the edge of your seat wondering what will happen next. I have never read anything by Dow but I read Poole's, Yo Yo Love. I highly recommend We Take This Man for fans of both authors.

4.0 out of 5 stars Could you Take this Drama??, March 25, 2009
This review is from: We Take This Man (Paperback)
We Take This Man was a interesting read but I found myself PUTTING myself in Alicia and Tracey's situations and saying HELLLLLLLL NAW!

Meet Tracey, the high school sweetheart and wife of Dwight Wilson. She was the spoiled, mom/wifey type who was used to getting her way at all costs! She loved to hide her shopping bags from Dwight and basically it was all about her. Dwight gets a job offer for a position in MD and decides to accept. Tracey and her selfishness is NOT having that! So because she didn't want to leave her home, she allows her husband to go to another state without her and his family! What women in their right noggin would do such a thing!

Meet Alicia with her savvy, sassy and loving life personality is not happy about this newcomer/new boss coming into the company. Dwight starts the new position and although Alicia is not feeling his existence, she likes how he does the job. Long work nights leave these two no choice but to get to know each other better. No feelings turn into good feelings for the both of them and the drama unfolds. In the meantime, Dwight and Tracey long distance marriage is NOT working out. So, he decided that divorce is the best solution. Tracey decided to contest it but doesn't let Dwight know that. While in MD, Alicia finds out she's pregnant and Dwight decides to marry her......DRAMA and more f-----DRAMA!!!

I have to admit, I struggled to read this because these women made some dizzy azz decisions and I wanted to shake both of them!!

Candice with her vivid imagination and amusing writing style had me laughing so hard and Poole added her witty yet calm style of writing and this collaboration was wonderful! Kudos to both Ladies!

3.0 out of 5 stars Unsure how I feel, January 8, 2009
This review is from: We Take This Man (Paperback)
Tracey Wilson has everything a woman could want in a husband. He is a good father to his children, a loving husband to her, and he is educated and earns a good living...good enough for Tracey to have a brand new home in Florida, and not have to worry too much about her spending habits.

But, all that changes when Dwight gets offered a promotion at work - it is a $40,000 a year increase in pay but there is a catch - he will be relocated to Maryland. After a lot of discussion, Tracey decides that she is going to stay behind in Florida and Dwight will fly back on the weekends. I for one never understand how people think this will work, especially when there are children involved. But so goes the story.

Dwight is totally devoted to making this new job work out, and ends up missing weekends with his family. He is so busy that he forgets to call, and even when he is "home" his mind is still on work. And on Alicia.

Alicia Dixon works at the company that Dwight gets transferred to, and there is an immediate attraction. But, Alicia is upset because she feels that she was slighted for the position that is now Dwight's. As they continue to spend more time together, they find out that they have much in common and Dwight sees that this is what he has been looking for - someone to completely support him and not decide to stay behind in a different state. Alicia knows that Dwight is married, but feels as if he is fair game - what kind of wife would let their man move to another state and only see them on weekends?

Dwight decides to file for divorce - he has everything he needs in Alicia and realizes he has been unhappy with Tracey since her refusal to move. But things aren't going to be as easy as he thinks.

I have never read anything by Candice Dow or Daaimah, and although the content of the book was troubling to me (with the affairs and the way they decided to work things out in the end) I must say that the writing was excellent. I am unsure if I would recommend this book or not. I for one think that most women are stronger than they are portrayed in this book, but again let me stress the word most.

5.0 out of 5 stars Three's a crowd, December 27, 2008

This review is from: We Take This Man (Paperback)
Tracey Wilson has a good man in her husband Dwight. Dwight is educated, makes good money, is a loving father to Jordan and Destiny and wonderful husband and provides a beautful home for his family.

When Dwight is transferred from Jacksonville, Florida to Maryland by his job Tracey refuses to move with him. Dwight must take the job for the $40,000 annual salary increase. If he stays in FL he will lose $30,000 a year. Tracey wants him to stay but knows they can't afford the home or her lavish spending habits if he takes a pay cut.

So Dwight moves to Maryland for the new job, while Tracey and the girls stay behind. Dwight plans to fly to Florida every weekend to be with his family.

It all goes downhill from there. Dwight is occupied with work and misses some weekends, he's too busy to call at times and when is back in FL he mind is till on work. Tension grows between Tracey and Dwight and then there is Alcia.

Alicia Dixon works at the company where Dwight is transferred to. At
first Alcia can't stand Dwight because she feels as if he stole her position. But as time goes on Alicia and Dwight grow closer and Dwight is increasingly unhappy with Tracey and her refusal to move to Maryland. Alicia knows Dwight is married, but hey who lets there HUSBAND move to another state? That means his wife is practically giving up her man right? Alicia's been hurt before and can't help being wary of their relationship, but she also can't help falling for Dwight either.

Tracey thinks Dwight will eventually come back home to her but what she doesn't know is that Dwight has started a new life in Maryland with Alicia. Dwight files for divorce and marries Alicia...still Tracey knows nothing. When Tracey finally does go up to Maryland she will get the shock of her life!!!

This novel is a must read!! I have never read anything by Candice Dow, but Daaimah is one of my favorites so I gave it a try and I LOVED it!!!! This novel is a must read and explores and answers the questions, can one man truly love two women? And can those two women coexist and openly share that man?

"We Take This Man" by Candice Dow and Daaimah S. Poole is and excellent piece of work that demands to be discussed!
Once I viewed the cover and the title I was intrigued. The caption on the cover says "One man two wives...can it last forever?" My eyes was all over the pages just to see how these two women Tracey and Alicia DO take this man Dwight and how they try to make it work.

Now...some may read this and won't agree with the situation presented here, and they may let their personal feeling cloud their judgment of the authors work, but I'm going to say this...

If Tracey or Alicia were my personal friend, I'd tell them that I think they've lost their mind!! If I knew Dwight... the center of all the drama, I'd bitch slap him!!! How dare he try to have his cake and eat it too!!!! So there! You now know my feelings on the subject.

With that said, this is an AWEsome collaboration between Candice and Daaimah. The characters and storyline had me spitting explicit phrases. The plot had my full attention as I can hardly believe women would knowingly go into a situation like this. There were no cat fights and name calling as these women were on a different level.
I was disappointed in Tracey though I thought she was the more head strong of the two women, so I was shocked at her suggestion.
The ending had me thrown a little as it seemed Dwight did an about face.

I liked how the authors told at the beginning how they came to write a story like this one.

Kudos to Ms Poole and Ms Dow.

3.0 out of 5 stars Caught in the middle..., July 15, 2009

(REAL NAME)
This review is from: We Take This Man (Paperback)
Dwight Wilson has received a wonderful job promotion, one that will net him tens of thousands more per year in his annual salary. There are two drawbacks, however. First, his promotion requires a move to another city. Secondly, his wife Tracey refuses to move because not only will it uproot her two young children, she will also have to give up her dream home which she has spent months decorating and getting just right. Refusing to give up on this once in a lifetime opportunity, Dwight makes the move on his own.

Try as he might, the long distance marriage just isn't working. Unfortunately divorce from Tracey becomes a reality. Determined to move on with his life, Dwight falls in love with his co-worker Alicia and they eventually marry. Little does Dwight know, Tracey never filed the divorce papers which leaves Dwight facing an improbable situation.

When I saw the title, We Take This Man and read the synopsis of the story, I expected a book full of drama, such as cat-fighting, back-stabbing, and vindictive, jealous rages. Instead, what I encountered was a timid read that progressed and ended in such a way that even I, "Ms. Non-controversy", couldn't imagine or allow if faced with such a predicament.

The plot was weak in that it never really exploded into the jaw dropping, "oh no they didn't", tumultuous storyline that it could have been. The female characters came off as being petty and selfish instead of the in your face, finger waving, neck rolling and vindictive women you would expect in a scenario such as this.

Despite my misgivings with this book, it was a quick, easy read and I commend the authors for their collaborative efforts.

5.0 out of 5 stars A Book Clubs Dream!!, May 21, 2009

Most people who know me, know that I'm a fan of Dow's work. She's a good writer who has a knack for creating characters and situations that make you want to pull them to the side for a very looong talk. I'm not sure exactly how the collaboration between Dow & Poole played out but I give them both much credit for a great read.

At first, the premise will probably seem absurd to the average reader, but the authors give enough of the characters' history and their emotional states before unfolding a series of critical events that place them in a situation that at least, I, had no problem believing they could end up in.

My wife and I had a great discussion about this book! The most animated book discussion we've had in a long time. In fact, I should take a star away from these authors for the trouble they got me in. That is because these characters are some really interesting, troubling, emotion evoking, folks. If you belong to a book club you will have a blast discussing this one. So, get the wine, cheese and the six foot sub ready, then go out and get this book.

4.0 out of 5 stars Funny Yet Dramatic Too!, February 28, 2009
This review is from: We Take This Man (Paperback)
Dwight and Tracy Wilson were happily married with two children and living in their brand new home in Florida. They were on top of the world until Dwight is offered a promotion in Maryland. After going back and forth about the promotion and whether or not he should take it, Dwight decides to take it. But Tracy was not having it. She was not moving from the "Sunshine State" to Maryland. She told Dwight he could go, but she was staying in Florida with the children and he could make weekend & holiday visits. That plan was quickly short lived when he meets Alicia Dixon.

Since Dwight was in Maryland alone and missing his wife terribly, he meets a co-worker in his office named Alicia Dixon. Alicia has decided that men aren't worth it and cannot be trusted because of past relationships she's been through. But after she meets Dwight, all of her "man-hating" beliefs go out of the window. He changes her entire thought process because he's kind, considerate, and enjoys being with her. There's only one thing in the way...his wife Tracey. After having a casual affair with Dwight, Alicia's worst nightmare happens...she finds out that she is pregnant. After telling Dwight this, he's made up his mind to leave Tracey and be with Alicia. Tracey is not going anywhere without a fight and she's determine to make sure that Alicia is not the next Mrs. Wilson.

Bestselling authors Candice Dow & Daaimah S. Poole came together to bring us We Take This Man. The story is told by both women that are involved with one man. One is his actual wife and the other is his mistress. The story goes back and forth between both women and what they think of one another. The storyline is very funny because these women are a mess and each is determine to get the other out of the picture. Once you start reading this book, you won't be able to put it down and you're going to want to know what happens next. But this story is truly unbelievable, even for it to be fiction. I would recommend We Take This Man for anyone who loves a little drama, no matter how crazy it is.

4.0 out of 5 stars WE, February 5, 2009
This review is from: We Take This Man (Paperback)
Every little girl dreams of her knight in shining armor. For Tracey, she's always known that Dwight Wilson was that man. Dwight's job is uprooting from Florida to Maryland. Unfortunately, Tracey is already settled and refuses to move. For monetary reasons, Dwight takes the position and immediately it's decided that Dwight will be the one making all of the compromising.

Alicia Dixon never dreamed of happily ever after and quite honestly was cool with loving and leaving. When she learns that she's getting a new boss, Alicia finds herself on the defense and despite any job insecurities that she has, Dwight makes the transition fun for both of them.

Friction in the Wilson household leads to constant bickering, banishment and soon nothing but stress. Tracey believes that as long as she's mistreating Dwight he'll come running back. What she never planned on was Alicia providing him with a comforting ear. Unhappiness, bitterness, divorce, marriage and now it's WE!

Book clubs, `We Take This Man' will make for an out of the ordinary book club read as the discussion is likely to continue for days as it did with ours.
