Editorial Reviews

Product Description

For the first time ever on CD, Raven presents two era-defining albums by the legendary JOHNNY PAYCHECK - Take This Job and Shove It (1977) and the follow-up Armed And Crazy (1978). Born Donald Eugene Lytle, Paycheck was dubbed "one of the greatest honky tonkers of his time", going on to prove the point by sending the flipping-the-finger ‘Take This Job And Shove It' to #1 on the US Country singles chart. The album of the same name was Paycheck's commercial high water mark reaching #2 on the LP chart. It seems incredible that this is its first ever release on compact disc! Paycheck consolidated his fully fledged star status when ‘Georgia in a Jug' made the Top 20 (#17) and ‘Friend, Lover, Wife' went Top 10 (#7). All these hits, and more, are contained on this top value 2-for-1 CD. Take This Job and Shove It and Armed And Crazy defined a new era in country music that reverberates with contemporary artists to this day. With five bonus tracks from Paycheck's stunning tribute to Merle Haggard Mr. Hag Told My Story this release captures the distinctive voice of a rebellious and influential country artist at the peak of his craft. With superb quality audio, 25 tracks, over 75 minutes of music and detailed liner notes. 2 -for-1.

5.0 out of 5 stars Prime Paycheck, November 30, 2008

This is a worthy successor to the first Raven Records Paycheck twofer - good songs, outstanding sound quality, informative liner notes, and overall a great value. The first Raven twofer contained as bonus tracks the first 5 tracks (side 1) of the Epic LP "Mr Hag Told My Story." This CD contains side 2 of that album as bonus tracks, thus making both CDs "twofers and a half." Keep it coming!

4.0 out of 5 stars Paycheck's Shining Star.., June 6, 2008
Amazon Verified Purchase(What's this?)
Take This Job and Shove It, is the title song on this album, the recording that launched Johnny Paycheck into superstardom, written by David Allan Coe,another outlaw country singer, from the same era. This album rolls steadily with one honky tonk drinkin' song after another. Hear it with the,4F Blues, Spirits of St.louis, Georgia in a Jug, the hilarious,Colorado Kool-aid. And no one can wail a ballad like Paycheck, as he tells it with the,Fool Strikes Again, showing off Johnny's true colors. The second record on this import cd compilation,Armed and Crazy, not alot to say except, not one of Paycheck's better efforts, however, included on this cd are five bonus songs from the scarce album, (Hag,You Told My Story In That Song.) and don't forget Johnny's trademark,TAKE THIS JOB AND SHOVE IT, 5 stars for this album, minus a star for ,Armed And Crazy.
