3.0 out of 5 stars Some of the better music from a bad genre
Basically Fall Out Boy is decent music from a genre that is filled with bands that are not unique, or individual and all seem to be copying each other. The lyrics on the record are actually understandable, and you can tell some people in the band (drummer) may have some talent past supporting the vocals. Overall, if you like this pop-punk genre you'll probably love it, if...

I've never written a review for Amazon, but I HAD to recommend this album...

Some things that stand out about Fall Out Boy are:

1. The singer has a very unique voice(a good thing, especially in this genre), and can actually sing, and his voice isn't whiny which is pretty common of the lead singers of groups like this.

2. The music is complex when it needs to be, complements the singing and tunes perfectly...when I like a song, usually it's the singing or the actual music that stands out more than the other, but on "Take This to Your Grave" they meld and neither takes precedent over the other, they just work.

3. The melodies are amazing. About half of the songs have incredible melodies that you've never heard anything close to before, but they don't overuse through the duration of the song(One example being Jason Mraz' "The Remedy", good song but he kills it because he sings that chorus like 15 times).

4. It's really really rare for a CD to have more than maybe 2-3 good songs if you're lucky, but this CD has at LEAST 6 excellent songs, which, most importantly, all sound different from each other.

5. Their music has broad appeal, which is getting harder and harder to do these days, you don't have to be a fan of rock or pop-punk to enjoy this album.

My Favorite Tracks:

1- Tell that Mick He Just Made My List of Things To Do Today

3- Grand Theft Autumn

7- Chicago Is So 2 Years Ago

9- Grenade Jumper

10- Calm Before the Storm

12- The Patron Saint of Liars and Fakes

I selfishly pride myself on liking bands no one has heard of and/or bands that aren't on the radio, but these stupid guys made me like a "cool" band. If you've made it this far you know what type of band you are getting yourself into, but unlike most bands that pop up for a year then disappear, these guys have put out good cds back to back. Yes buy this CD you won't be disappointed. The lyrics are great and the music even better. Seriously, I hate to have to write a review like that about a band that is on the radio all the time, but these guys are solid.

Good album. Some of the poor reviewers clearly don't know what they're talking about.

1. The lyrics on this album are sarcastic. That's what makes the lyrics funny and interesting. They often don't take themselves seriously.

2. The band didn't have a name. They got it on one of their first shows from a fan who yelled out the name Fall Out Boy when they asked what their name should be.

If you like anything that's poppy with a polished, barely audible hardcore touch, check these guys out. You'll be hooked.

A friend recently recommended fallout boy and even ended up getting me the cd. first time through i really enjoyed "where is your boy" and "dead on arrival", but didnt think a whole lot of the rest of the cd. the next day i found myself humming a bunch of the other songs. needless to say i was hooked. my personal favorites are "where is your boy", "pros and cons of breathing", "grenade jumper" and "tell that mick...". definitely worth whatever price theyre offering, esp. if youre into any this type of music. great lyrics that really make every song fun to listen to and some of the best catchy tunes ive heard in awhile.

A Kid's Review
This review is from: Take This to Your Grave (Audio CD)
this CD is great and is put 2gether well. I have had the pleasure to meet this band and was happily surprised. They are honest and HILARIOUS!!!!!! These boys deserve more/better credit than they get. Here's a summary:

1."Tell That Mick He Just Made My List of Things to Do Today"- great song to wake up to in the morning. LOVE, LOVE, LOVE. Wouldn't want to b the girl in the song (OUCH!). Shows talent both musical and lyrical. (9.5/10)

2.Dead on Arrival- cool song. Hard to describe, but great tune and i like Patrick's voice in the song. (9/10)

3. Grand Theft Autumn (Where is Your Boy)- Most commonly know and should b. Great song, i absolutely love this song. I like playing guitar along w/ the song. If someone has only heard this song from the CD (and like it), they should buy T.T.T.Y.G. (10/10)

4.Saturday- I am devoted to this song! I love how at the end Patrick sings really high. Any guy who has the ability to do that, definitely has my respect! I love the music too. Drums r fun, but not as fun as guitar! (10/10)

5.Homesick at Spacecamp- I LOVE THE DRUMS ON THIS SONG!!!!!!!! sorry, had to say that. Anyway...I like the lyrics ("and i can't forget your style or your cynicism, somehow it was like you were the first to listen to everything we said") and i like the fact that pete admits he's capable of missing a girl, anyone who knows pete knows he isn't exactly the type. i.e: my smile's an open wound without you...and my hands are tied to pages inked to bring you back (awww, how cute!!!) (10/10)

6.Sending Postcards From a Plane Crash (Wish You Were Here)- Lots of energy and i can totally picture joe going crazy on this song. I like the "sarcasm" (couldn't find a word that fits). "You can thank your lucky stars that everything i wish for will never come true." (9.5/10)

7.Chicago is So Two Years Ago- I LOVE THIS SONG!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

My all time favorite on the whole CD, i am completeely in love with this song. I love singing the fast part on this song, i memorized it the first day i listened to this CD. b-cuz of this song i got called on stage so i love this song. (100000.../10)

8.The Pros and Cons of Breathing- funny title and words. pete really must have proud of himself bcuz of this song. "my pen is the barrel of the gun." kinda cool. (8.5/10)

9.Grenade Jumper- one of the more personal songs on the CD. I love the bass in the song; it's cool cuz u can actually hear the bass stand out. Personal and fun; fob fans love this song. (9/10)

10.Calm Before the Storm- the second most well-known song on the CD (Where is Your Boy being the first). It's good; better than the version on Fall Out Boy's Evening Out With Your Girlfriend. Cleverly put 2gether. (9/10)

11.Reinventing the Wheel to Run Myself Over- one of the lyrically short songs on the CD, but i still love this song. It shows off the drums well and andy has my respect. You'd have to be pretty good or REALLy, REALLY hyper to play the drums like they should (is there a difference between the two). I really have a blast playing the drums for this song, of course practice really helped. LOVE, LOVE, LOVE!!!! (10/10)

12.The Patron Saint of Liars and Fakes- once again, i love the title. sarcastic and funny, yet a good song. a song i listen 3 times in a row. great music in the backround, a bit better than the lyrics. Great way to end the CD. (10/10)

hope u liked my summary and please listen to the following bands if u love/like FOB: Panic! At the Disco, Motion City Soundtrack, The Academy is..., Gym Class Heroes, Hawthorne Heights, All-American Rejects, The Killers, The Bravery, October Fall, The Starting Line, and From First to Last.

with love to fall out boy and the bands listed above,

the future Mrs.Patrick Stump

5.0 out of 5 stars The songs you grow to like never stick at first..., August 30, 2005
This review is from: Take This to Your Grave (Audio CD)
I was a bit aprehensive when purchasing this c.d. because a friend told me it was good, but they underestimated it!

Fall Out Boy's "Take This To Your Grave" has all the quick paced music, humorously bitter lyrics, and perfectly timed screamo than you can shake a stick at. My three favorite songs on the c.d. are "Tell Mick He Just Made My List...", "Grand Theft Autum", and "Sending Postcards From A Plane Crash" because they're face paced, in your face lyrics, catchy riffs, and they make you wanna jump up and down! This band has quickly shot to the top of my favorite band list not only cause they're AMAZING live, but because their music is really fresh and raw. Buy this c.d. you won't be dissapointed!

5.0 out of 5 stars Surprisingly addicting, December 6, 2004
This review is from: Take This to Your Grave (Audio CD)
I first heard a few of these songs online somewhere (SoundClick, Pure Volume, one of those) and I was impressed to say the least. I got the CD and sent it through my normal CD rotation, but it didn't get played nearly as much as other CDs in my collection. On day I went on a long drive and listened to this CD all the way to where I was going and all the way back and realized that this CD was unbelievably good. It really grew on me, to the point where they are one of my favorite bands.

First off, yes this band is poppy and "not all hardcore!" so if that's what you're looking for, look elsewhere. The lyrics that this band has are creative and sometimes qutie humorous. I especially love the way that they sing the lyrics though. Hardly any of them rhyme, but they're put together in a great way. The music behind the lyrics is as well very sound. More creative than a lot of songs that I've heard recently. They throw in guitar riffs, bass riffs, and drum riffs more often than normal, but keep it from sounding busy, overall contributing to a sound that it pleasing.

Song breakdown is as follows...

"Tell Mick That He Just Made My List of Things to Do Today" - 9/10 - Great way to start off the CD. A lot of energy and passion here

"Dead on Arrival" - 8/10 - Kind of repetitive, and gets old after a bit, but still pretty good

"Grand Theft Autumn (Where is Your Boy)" - 10/10 - Great song with new ideas. Moves along well

"Saturday" - 7/10 - My least favorite song on the album. It starts out good, but loses it by the end

"Homesick at Space Camp" - 9/10 - Good not great. But a very catchy chorus

"Sending Postcards from a Plane Crash (Wish You Were Here" - 9/10 - Once again, good not great. Moves along good, but is a big repetitive

"Chicago is so Two Years Ago" - 10/10 - BEST SONG ON THE ALBUM. I just love this song for some reason...great energy, great chorus...great everything

"The Pros and Cons of Breathing" - 8/10 - Ish...I can't really explain why. The song slightly irks me

"Grenade Jumper" - 9/10 - Fast and fun

"Calm Before The Storm" - 10/10 - Slower, but moves along well, with a good sound

"Reinventing the Wheel to run Myself Over" - 8/10 - Supposed to be very fast, with a lot of energy. Love the chorus, but the rest of the song is just alright

"The Patron Saint of Liars and Fakes" - 9/10 - A darker and harder song, but the chorus modulation is jacked from TBS! In any case, still a good song.

5.0 out of 5 stars *laughs* and you thought all pop-punk sucks., December 25, 2004
This review is from: Take This to Your Grave (Audio CD)
if you're a pop-punk fan you'll like this, and if you're not, you should be surprised. i'm not a huge fan of that genre, but Fall Out Boy is amazing. Patrick's vocals are amazing. he has a strong voice, and he shows it. great musicianship too. you can tell that these guys know how to play. oh and did i mention they have great lyrics? Pete Wentz, bassist/songwriter, knows how to write. these are not your average cliched emo lyrics. they are smart. you can tell they spent time writing these songs. buy this album, these guys deserve as much respect as possible.

best tracks-

The Patron Saint of Liars and Fakes

The Pros and Cons of Breathing

Calm Before The Storm

Chicago is So Two Years Ago

5.0 out of 5 stars Good despite any dumb sterotypes Fall Out Boy has, May 9, 2006

I admit, it took me a while to get over myself and start listening to this album. But once I did, I was completely hooked. This CD has a wierd nostalgic vibe, even though I'd never heard half the songs on the album. It is just a really easy listen that makes you happy, and makes you want to dance. And believe me, I dont dance. Also, I think the lead singers voice sounds different than it does on their new album, and frankly I prefer it on this CD.

Best Songs: Tell Mick He Just Made My List of Things To Do Today, Grand Theft Autumn, Dead On Arrival, The Pros and Cons of Breathing.

Also, I feel pretty sorry for whoever these songs are written about, for instance:

Let's play this game called "when you catch fire"

I wouldn't piss to put you out

Stop burning bridges and drive off of them

....hahahahhaha, classy.
