Only one review I've read so far compares Edmonson to Blossom Dearie. I first heard her today at the Austin "Armadillo Christmas Bazaar", her voice echoing through the hall singing "If I Were A Bell" from "Guys and Dolls", and I thought "wow they're playing Blossom Dearie." As I listened, however, I could hear the nuances, the very faint suggestion of a growl, the slurs, the flattened vowels, and I realized I must be wrong. I got to the stage eventually and was totally amazed.

This young woman has absorbed a *lot* of tradition and synthesized it into something that's new and deeply evocative at the same time. The combo behind her is totally awesome, and the engineering on this album is flawless - it sounds fantastic, clean, crisp, and rich.

I've got a 12-year-old son who's a serious Blossom Dearie fan (not kidding) and I can't wait to play these tracks for him. The comparison is not meant to label Kat as a knock-off by any means - it's like an introduction. I'm on my third listen to this disk and I still hear the similarities but now mostly I hear Kat.

5.0 out of 5 stars Wow- another great jazz vocalist, April 5, 2010

First time I heard Kat was today singing Day and Night, I thought for sure it was another Stacy Kent tune, but one I had not heard recently. I was surprised when I found out it was Kat and jumped right into Amazon to chek on the availability of her latest CD "take to the sky". I don't know squat about Blossom Dearie, so can't really compare her as others have.
I like her sound and the arrangements are great. Hope she does well and also happy to hear she comes from that wonderful music heartland of Austin, Texas. Great town and just keeps cranking out super artists for all of us to enjoy.

Kat's singing is easy to listen to, and her voice has an inner quality that adds emotion and depth to her songs. She is well on her way to reaching the top ranks.
