FUN,

This review is from: Take What You Can Live (Audio CD)
This CD took me back to when I saw XYZ live. There's no fancy stuff here, just straight-ahead rock and roll, feedback and mistakes included. Don't miss this one, especially if you're a fan of late 80s-early 90s hard rock/heavy metal. Good rockers, good power ballads (and for the XYZ collector, four bonus tracks that were the EP that made it into Don Dokken's hands--cheesy, but fun!)Gotta love it.

First of all, the RELEASE of this album is French - that is what the album description above says. (This album is from Axe Killer, which is indeed a French company.) The album description above does not say that the band members are French. That said, if you read the liner notes included with CD, it clearly states the vocalist and the bassist are indeed French. The drummer and guitarist on the live portion of this CD are Americans.
On to the CD itself. If you enjoy polished American hard rock from the late '80's or early '90's, you should definitely check out XYZ. This live document seems to be a fair representation of them. The performance is quite good and the audio quality is also quite listenable. I get the feeling that only part of the set is presented, given that the rest of the disc is filled out with their original demo material. (Which, again, feature a different drummer and guitarist.) The demo material is a far cry in quality from what XYZ would produce on their two studio albums and this disc. Overall, I really like the disc - it is what it is: a fun hard rock show. And I give a real "tip of the hat" to Marc Richard Diglio. He is really a great guitarist and I don't think he got enough credit for his musicianship.

I also met these guys several times, they do not have Danish accents. The singer had a French accent, the other three were American.I love the XYZ studio albums, but I'm not a big fan of live CDs. This one is as good as can be expected.

GREAT band. Fun live. CD captures this.Album description is wrong - they are from Denmark. Met them a few times and they have THICK Danish accents. Not from L.A. (probably why they are so good) |
