A gem of a CD,
By Jim (Los Angeles) - See all my reviews

Sonic quality is as good as any audiophile recording I have ever heard. The 24 bit/192 KHz mastering really comes across superbly. The style of music is an impressive blend between classical Chinese with a sensual new age ambience. The singer's voice is literally haunting but at the same time, sexy and captivating. Another great and very similar CD is "Whisper Of Tenderness" also issued by Hugo CDs.

Xiao Lin Yang "Take You There",
By Sei-kun "Shan" (Omaha, NE, USA) - See all my reviews
This review is from: I Take You There (Audio CD)
This CD is a terrific blend of traditional and contemporary Chinese music! Xiao Lin Yang is an amazing singer. If you like soft music, that is in a way eerie, but also cute and relaxing, then you'll love this CD.
The music gives you a feel of love, anguish; each songs' sound relfects the content of the song. If you like singers like Eri Sugai, Aiha Higurashi, or ACO then this singer is a great one for you to try!

Beautiful and different,

This is an absolutely fabulous collection of music. In my collection of old Chinese vinyl albums, I've come across more than one of these songs, but the feeling that Xiao-Lin puts behind each note is indescribable. By taking the historic songs and adding an electronic, almost Björk-like feel to the instruments, a great ambience is created. It is at the same time relaxing and invigorating.
Another pro about this CD is the enclosed booklet. Inside are snippets of Chinese tales such as the Butterfly Lovers, a kind of Chinese Romeo and Juliet. The deep connections with Chinese culture and history included in this entire project are not to be missed, and I'd definitely recommend this to both lovers of classical Chinese music and those who enjoy a New Age feel to their music.
