This video should be required viewing by all social workers. In many states, various Governmental agencies really are that "trigger-happy" in being willing to remove a minor child from a potentially abusive or neglectful situation, and the amount of grief that can cause the child really is quite serious, as the film itself portrays.

On suspicion of criminal neglect on the part of the mother for her daughter, the daughter is whisked away to some secret state-run orphanage that might as well have been Juvenile Hall for all the freedom the child has, and the mother is even denied simple visitation or even to know if her child is OK.

It is a difficult issue: Where a home life is less than absolutely healthy, ought the State intervene to remove the child(ren) and place them elsewhere, and if so, under what circumstances? For so often the State and its social workers can (without meaning to) end up turning a blind eye towards the serious trauma of yanking a child out of such a home, as though anything less than absolutely perfect or the vaguest suspicions thereof could warrent such dramatic intervention.

If there is anything persons entering the social worker profession can learn from this film, it is how to weigh the serious trauma of such intervention versus the (usually less but potentially greater) trauma of an unhealthy home situation. For sometimes, such intervention can be warrented, as the film also nicely draws out.

I am not sure what was worse, the premise, Bertinelli's acting or the girl who played her daughter, she was just awful. Glad this junk is not available at all.
