4.0 out of 5 stars PT Rocks
This is the best CD Pat Travers has played on in a long time. The song writing is very good for a CD that was written in a short amount of time. The recording quality of this CD is excellent. Pat's playing shines throughout the CD. Carmine's drumming is strong and refreshing. The bass playing of T.M. is outstanding. Pat sings on quite a few songs and his voice sounds as...

3.0 out of 5 stars Pat keeps putting them out and I keep buying them, NO MORE!
When I heard about this release about a month ago, I jumped at the chance and pre-ordered this right away. When I heard about this release about a month ago, I jumped at the chance and pre-ordered this right away. After listening to this, I am just going to have to accept the fact that Pat Travers is not capable of making more than an average record at best anymore. This CD is much better than the Blues Bureau releases he put out in the 90's though. There is some really good playing from all involved but after listening to this, not one track really jumps out and shines. It just plays track 1 through 13 and stops, leaving the listener saying not bad but nothing great. If you like the PT Power Trio or his other "cover" CDs, then you would probably enjoy this. I am tired of expecting PT to rise to the occassion and put out something of power like "Heat in the Street" or "Putting it Straight" again. Not a bad background disc for the garage or for stopping the silence on a long drive. His guitar playing still dazzles at times but the songs just bore me. At least he is writing original material again. You know what would be a great idea? For Pat to re-record some of his classics from the 70's this year and see how they would evolve in this new millenium with current recording technology. That would definitely be more interesting than this.

Pat sings on quite a few songs and his voice sounds as strong as ever. Pat's fat, biting lead and heavy rhythm guitar work will please most PT fans. His blues are good but in my opinion, it sounds best when PT Rocks!

If you are a true PT fan, this CD is worth checking out!

5.0 out of 5 stars Five Stars!!!, November 7, 2004
This review is from: It Takes a Lot of Balls (Audio CD)
This is one the best blues rock / hard rock albums released in then last 3 years. Pat Travers guitar really smokes and his voice is getting better as he gets older. Carmine Appice is a monster drummer, showing his power and virtuosity all over this recording. T.M. Stevens on bass (that I must confess, didn't know before listening this) has worked with Joe Cocker, Tina Turner, James Brown and Steve Vai on his worldwide acclaimed Sex & Religion.

If you enjoy Linkin Park, Nightwish, Limp Bizkit and similar bands, this is definitely not for you. However, if you love real and true Rock & Roll, go for it! You won't be disappointed.

4.0 out of 5 stars solid effort!!, December 14, 2005
This review is from: It Takes a Lot of Balls (Audio CD)
Pat Travers & Carmine Appice.........say no more and this CD does deliver. I was happy on first listen and that happiness grows with each subsequent listen.

Fans of Travers trademark licks & tone will not be disappointed. Pair this with Carmine's legendary heavy drum style and you've got one rockin disc.

Nuff said! :)

4.0 out of 5 stars Still Kicking, August 27, 2005

Pat is certainly lively on this cd proving that he still has "balls". He refuses to grow old and mellow with age, which is what us old and young rockers are looking for.

4.0 out of 5 stars Pure rock and roll, December 1, 2006

Instead of sounding like two old timers living in the past these men lay down sounds like two thoroughbreds in their first big race. Fresh, quality great song after great song. Well written and extremely well played. Interesting how they use a left to right and right to left stereo effect in most of the songs. More than any other album I've ever heard. Not a complaint just an interesting decision on their part.

Get this one.

4.0 out of 5 stars Something different..., December 26, 2005

This review is from: It Takes a Lot of Balls (Audio CD)
it's called flat-out rock & roll!! PT & Carmen lay down some solid music here. The first 4 songs are straight blistering rock & roll. Never Saw It... & Keep On Rockin' fill out the album very nicely. Nothing overly great about any of the songs, just that they're played & sung very well. Travers & Appice did the song writing which is solid, but not fancy. If you buy this, make sure you get the live CD they did at the HOB in Myrtle Beach. Bazooka is the 2nd studio they did...it's ok, mostly covers, but it warranted me buying it since they haven't let me down on the last 2 efforts. The live versions of their 'Balls' songs are even better than on the studio album. Go ahead & check it out.

5.0 out of 5 stars Buy This CD, November 16, 2004
This review is from: It Takes a Lot of Balls (Audio CD)
The first thing you read is 2 good reviews and 2 so-so reviews. So what should you do? You should click on the "buy this" tab right now if you like good solid rock & roll. The "so-so" reviewers must have given it one listen and then shelved their CDs. FOOLS!!! This CD kicks major ASS!!! How could you go wrong with PT & CA??? I'm not gonna bore you with a breakdown of every song, but their really isn't a bad one on this CD. And that's a rare thing these days with all the crap that's out there. You know...buy a CD with one or two good songs on it, hoping you get something good for your money...only to find out that the rest of the songs are shlock!!! Travers & Appice is a good addition to any true rockers collection. BUY IT NOW!!!!

1.0 out of 5 stars It Takes a Whole lot!, November 3, 2004

This review is from: It Takes a Lot of Balls (Audio CD)
The title "It Takes A Lot of Balls" couldn't be more appropriate. It must've taken all of Carmine's to associate his skillful drumming with such lousy singing and boring guitar. The lyrics and percussion, as well as the strong, innovative bass, are top notch; sadly, they are hard to appreciate here. More time in the studio on this one would have been well spent.
