4.0 out of 5 stars Divine Phyllis, August 20, 2004

This review is from: It Takes Style (Audio CD)
This CD is in fact a combination of her 2 first albums: Phyllis Hyman & Sing a song, originally issued under Buddah Records. The Pair label has taken the great decision to collate both under 1 CD. All the selections are excellent, but unfortunately this release will frustrate any Phyllis fan, as 2 tracks are missing from the original "Phyllis Hyman" LP and 4 from the "Sing a song" LP. However, an addional gem from 1977 - Valentine Love - has been added here.
Too bad, as a great voice like Phyllis does not deserve such treatment.
Dates, tracks and composer notes are unexistant.
Very poor packaging !
That is the reason why the rating is limited to 4 stars.
Anyway, enjoy it as it really represents Phyllis at her best.

3.0 out of 5 stars Pair Records made a BIG mistake!, January 31, 2006
This review is from: It Takes Style (Audio CD)
Not only the poor packaging will frustrate any Phyllis Hyman fan and collector. The worst thing is that the song "Valentine Love" - the reason for collectors to buy this compilation - is NOT sung by Phyllis Hyman!! It is a Michael Henderson & Jean Carne duet!! I have no idea how the staff at Pair Records can made such a big mistake!
The music selection is great - but that was an easy job because you cannot find a bad song by Phyllis Hyman.
