Heather B (a BDP affiliate) has been putting it down for quite some time. On the mic, she's a monster! Production by Kenny Parker (of BDP). This is another gem of that NYC, Boom-Bap era. A slept on classic! Dope beats and hard-core rhymes. Some ol' real Hip-Hop sh*t!

This woman is one of the nicest women to bless the mic, since MC Lyte. This album is tight, with tracks like "All Glocks Down" and My Kinda N*gga featuring M.O.P have tight productions behind them. Don't sleep on her, coup this album if you find itHeather B - Takin' Mine '96 *****

Just a few good songs,

Even with an album this short, there is quite a bit of filler. Still, Heather's flow can get real nice. The first two songs, "Da Heartbreaka" (ill) and "All Glocks Down" (underground classic) got my hopes up. Get it used.

After dusting off some old CDs yesterday, I figured I'd dedicate the rest of the month to reviewing the old gems I have in my collection.First and foremost, forget about whatever you saw Heather B doing on MTV (The Real World Season 1). Shorty was affiliated with BDP way before that (BDP's H.E.A.L. Project as well as appearances on the Sex & Violence LP). This entire album was recorded in D&D Studios. Every song was produced by Kenny Parker (KRS One's brother) with one song produced by The Beatnuts (Real N*ggaz Up). I say all this to dead any thoughts about Heather not approaching the rap game seriously. Joints like "What Goes On", "Takin' Mine", and "If Headz Only Knew" make this album a must own. Also, any real hip hop fan will recognize "All Glocks Down" as a classic track. Sprinkle in cuts like "My Kinda N*gga", "Real N*ggaz Up", and "Sendin' 'Em Back" and you'll have a must own album on your hands. Flaws on this album are kept to a minimum. Maybe one of the ten tracks (Mad Bent) is what I would consider "skip material". The album is kind of short, but it's a pretty good listening experience, so no complaints there. Takin' Mine is one of the last great '96 releases ('96 is when rap began to become more and more jiggy and commercial). This should quickly be snapped up if you spot it on the shelf of your favorite record shop. This album contains gems that have been all but forgotten by even the old school heads. I recommend this joint as well as her other LP (Eternal Affairs). Standout Tracks: If Headz Only Knew, Takin' Mine, No Doubt, All Glocks Down (My Favorite), What Goes On, and My Kinda N*gga feat. M.O.P.

Classic Boom Bap to da Fullest,

Heather B is probably the most raw dogg female lyricts ever. My top 5 females are:1) Rah Digga 2) Bahamadia 3) Apani B Fly Emcee 4) Heather B 5) Jean Grae Takin Mine is indeed a classic boom bap album from start to finish. She recieves production from Kenny Parker, (KRS One's brother) who delivers an exceptional boom bap album. Let's explore more. 1) Da Heartbreaka the first track. It's okay personally, I think its the weakest. 2) All Glocks Down: classic single she drops hot bars saying "Classic like a Coca-Cola/ roll up a L and make it spliffy". 3) If heads only Knew: I ain't goin out!! Spittin more hot fiyah sayin ish like, "Y'all didn't know that Heather B get up, plus I make my lay-ups, so all you heffas shut the f*ck up!" 4) My Kinda N!gga Featuring M.O.P.: The absolute illest hard core boom bap song ever, ever, made. M.O.P. come though to just make the hardest ish at the time. Stand out lines in the song, 1) "Never regret what he did/N!gga flip an 8 month sentence to a 12 year bid." 2) "I f*cks wit n!ggas that wear braids and wear low cuts/n!ggas that will pull a heist and split yo front." The song is simply classic. 5) Takin Mine is a classic smooth personal track. It's tight. 6) Mad Bent: Superior. Favorite one-liner: "Heather B no gimmicks, no tricks, no n!ggas in the background writin my ish." 7) Sending Em Back: She uses a classic Akaholiks sample. Another tight @$$ song! 8) No Doubt: Another tight joint. 9) Real N!ggas Up: Extremly exceptional. my favorite verse is when Heather rips on the racist @$$ police, observe: "It's here to scar I/ here to poision you/ carry heat too/ scavanger dressed in blue/ bring it on b!tch/ the slaughter we'll enjoy/ once n!ggas organize y'all goin be unemployed." 10) What Goes On: The track where Heather explains what she likes in her fellow thug. That is the album people. It's classic through and through. If you can find it, buy it FO,REAL!!!!!!!!!! Peace!!!!!!!

Heather B.'s Takin Mine is a BOOM BAP LP to the fullest. A perfect example of real hard beats and real raps!!! Production=A+....Lyrics=A+One of the BEST MC's from NJ. I would definetly place her as one of the best releases from New Jeru somewhere between Naughty & Artifacts. If you listen to real hip hop music, you should own this! Peace! |
