5.0 out of 5 stars The best overall After 7 album
I've listened to this cd front to back, i like at least 10 songs. I'm very much looking forward to hearing Kevon's solo debut in June, and other future After 7 songs. These guys are more talented and polished than Boyz II Men, but never got the press they deserved. A truly great album

3.0 out of 5 stars After 7 - Takin' My Time (3.5 stars)
Released in the summer of 1992, After 7 made a commendable follow-up with their second album, "Takin' My Time". It included hits like "Kickin' It", "Can He Love U Like This", and the Originals' remake "Baby I'm For Real/Natural High." I was a fan from the first album, and them being Babyface's kin. I must say -- I was a little skeptical when I heard they were going to...

5.0 out of 5 stars No sophmore slump for these boys, January 10, 2007
This review is from: Takin My Time (Audio CD)
After releasing their slammin debut disc, After 7 appeared with a very worthy follow up disc with Takin' My Time. The disc featured three beautiful slow jams Can He Love You Like This, Takin My Time and their cover of Baby I'm For Real. All in all an excellent vocal trio that combines state-of-the-art, uptempo New Jack Swing tunes with classic romantic ballads.

3.0 out of 5 stars After 7 - Takin' My Time (3.5 stars), September 29, 2011

Released in the summer of 1992, After 7 made a commendable follow-up with their second album, "Takin' My Time". It included hits like "Kickin' It", "Can He Love U Like This", and the Originals' remake "Baby I'm For Real/Natural High." I was a fan from the first album, and them being Babyface's kin. I must say -- I was a little skeptical when I heard they were going to release a new album. I thought nothing could top the first one. I was wrong. Even though it's less consistent, it's still good. Here are some of my favorite tracks.

1. "Kickin' It" fits right into the new jack swing mold, with its uptempo pizazz and addictive beat. Definitely a favorite.

2. "Baby "I'm For Real" is an all-time favorite. Played routinely in quiet storm rotation, you would be hard-pressed NOT to like the original or this classic remake.

3. "No Better Love" has the perfect arrangement for the trio's distinct yet smooth voices. An album track, it could have been released to radio. Repeat play.

Overall, the album is good. It doesn't have as much firepower as their debut, but still worth a listen to every now and again. Recommended, but not highly.

5.0 out of 5 stars Great sophomore album by After 7, January 8, 2011

It was a hard task to top their stellar self titled debut album, but 3 years later they came pretty damn close. This album has been a stalwart in my collection since I first copped it in 1992. Right off the bat you get 2 quality uptempo New Jack flavored tracks but the real strength of the album comes with tracks 3 through 5. Track 3 "Can He Love You Like This" probably got the most airplay as it was a quiet storm staple, and deservedly so. But Track 4 "Truly Something Special" lives up to it's name. It is my ATF After 7 song. The vocals are magnificent, Kevon really impresses with a stunning display of vocal range. And the saxophone riff is so melodic. Truly a song you can just kick back and relax to with a glass of wine. Track 5 is a cover of the The Originals "Baby I'm For Real". After 7 does a spectacular job changing it up enough to make it their own, adding a verse at the end entitled Natural High which is done beautifully.
The rest of the album is enjoyable to listen to, I find there are no tracks that I tend to skip regularly. One complaint that I will make is I wish that they featured the 3rd member, Keith Mitchell, more. He is a very good singer in his own right.

4.0 out of 5 stars The music is great on this one., April 10, 2010

I remember this album in the winter of 1992. I was working at a factory and I heard the first single kickin it. I've always liked After 7 and I bought singles for the most part. But I decided to buy this album, on cassette of all things back then. But then again Cd's were to high priced for me then. But I listened to this album and I was hooked by the music. Dallas Austin (Producer of BoyzIIMen and ABC=Another Bad Creation.) and Randy Ran. I was like damn this is nice. I bought the Cd later and I think you should check it. Believe me you'll like it.

(REAL NAME)
This review is from: Takin My Time (Audio CD)
R&B trio After 7 drops an impressive release Takin' My Time and this is a bottle of wine. Members Melvin, Kevon and Keith have a sexy, mature sound similar to the likes of Babyface (as two of the members are his brothers). "Can He Love U Like This" has the feel of a classic 70's song by the lyrics over a modern slow groove topped off with a kiss. Attempting and accepting the changes for being with one person and it tells the story in the words that anyone attempting could understand on "Truly Something Special". Track 5 consists of two songs that are both remakes "Baby I'm For Real" and "Natural High". The medley of the songs by the group is just as good as the originals. The highlight for this album is found with the title track for the vocals and the range by After 7 with depth and emotions. "G.S.T." is the acronym for good sex tonight and that's all that needs to be said about this one in particular. To compliment the mood, "Love By Day, Love By Night" adds to the dim lights "...so brace yourself baby..." as stated in the song. There are also two interludes taken from the title track to introduce the mood and to close this LP off. As the group's name may insist, Takin' My Time should be played After 7.

This review is from: Takin My Time (Audio CD)
I RECENTLY GOT MY HANDS BACK ON THIS SET,AND I REALIZED JUST HOW MUCH I REALLY MISSED IT.FROM THE JUMP OFF ALL ABOUT LOVE,I KNEW THIS ALBUM WOULD BE TRULY SOMETHING SPECIAL,AND IT WAS(IN MY OPINION)THEIR BEST WORK.THE MOST MEMORABLE SONGS TO ME ARE THE TITLE TRACK WHICH ALONG WITH MY FAVORITE TRULY SOMETHING SPECIAL WERE VERY MUCH SLEPT ON BY THE RADIO,BUT THEY WERE VERY GOOD SONGS.ALSO ALL ABOUT LOVE WHICH WAS LARGELY SLEPT ON.THEIR COVER OF BABY I'M FOR REAL/NATURAL HIGH WAS FLAWLESS,AND CAN HE LOVE YOU LIKE THIS SEEMS TO BE EVERYBODY'S FAVORITE OF THIS SET.KICKIN'IT WAS ALSO A VERY POPULAR CLUB SONG AT THE TIME.I CONSIDER THIS ALBUM ANOTHER ONE OF MY"TIMELESS CLASSICS".
