This book is a great primer for social media and just as importantly, a quick read for the busy professional. It covered the basics for each of the channels well, and while I was already comfortable with most of the social media channels discussed in the book, it reinforced the knowledge I gained through trial and error. The book also gave me some tips and tricks to try that I hadn't considered in my firm's social media strategy. A great read for someone getting started in social media that will help them avoid the time spent on trial and error and rather go right to success!

There are a number of core desktop references that are indispensable for the communications professional. For me, these include proven titles like "The Elements of Style", "The New York Times Manual of Style and Usage", and "The Chicago Manual of Style". However, as my job role has evolved from "traditional" marketing into the world of online/social media marketing, it became apparent to me that I needed a quality quick reference on how to effectively use the five key social media platforms -- LinkedIn, Google, Facebook, Pinterest and Twitter -- with which I work. Enter "Taking Your Brand from the Bench to the Playing Field". I use it to get quick answers to a myriad of questions and, once the dust settles, I can drill down into topic details contained within this comprehensive, well-written volume. Whether you are a social media beginner, expert, or something in between, this book should be in your reference library for both quick reference and in-depth information about the effective use of these social media channels.

This book ended up being a gold mine for me. For starters, it really clarified the lingo, inner-workings and even etiquette of all the major channels—especially for Twitter. The screen grabs, charts, graphs and lists spelled it all out in a ‘make sense’ format. And simply by following Tracy’s strategy and campaign steps, I was able to grow my app brand from 3,000 to nearly 20,000 downloads. I’m recommending this book to everyone—because, of course, social media is here to stay.

This book is indispensable for gaining an understanding of social media. Terminology and vocabulary are explained and the reasons for their importance are also explained very clearly. This book is straight and to the point which is great since the point of social media in business is to use it, not read about it. The best part about this book however are the exercises at the end of each chapter. These provide a great "penalty free" road map of how to use each social media site so you can be up and running quickly and easily. Keep this book handy, you will definitely use it.
