5.0 out of 5 stars Best Christian Mommy Book I've Read, April 17, 2006
By
This review is from: Taking Care of the Me in Mommy: Realistic Tips for Becoming a Better Mom--Spirit, Body, & Soul (Hardcover)
Wow~ I think I have purchased just about every Christian book on mothering and parenting but this one is by far the best! I couldn't put it down. This title caught my eye because I was just at the doctor recently for a regular check up. I got a mini-lecture from him and was told that I needed to take the time to take care of myself. He pointed out that it was one of the best things I could do for not only myself, but definitely for my family. I read the book in record time! I really needed to hear so much of what was said. I so appreciate Lisa Welchel's willingness to share her struggles and failures along with the things that have worked well.
Because I read the book so quickly, I really love the idea of the "personal mom coaching". I have often read great books so fast that I hardly have time to really process and apply so much of what I have read. I am certain that it will be different this time! Every day since signing up at her website I have received an encouraging email on the topic I chose to work on first. (There is no additional fee for this if you purchase the book!)

This book has been such a blessing to me!

5.0 out of 5 stars A must have for every mom, April 24, 2006

Lisa understands. She has tapped into the heart of every wife and mother. She gives us the permission needed, and more importantly, the gentle reminder, to take care of ourselves, as well as our families. I love this book. The ideas are easy and practical, but more importantly, it's nice to read a book and know that the author truly does understand your heart and has been where you are.

5.0 out of 5 stars Every mom should have this book, June 13, 2006

This review is from: Taking Care of the Me in Mommy: Realistic Tips for Becoming a Better Mom--Spirit, Body, & Soul (Hardcover)
I am so thankful for the encouragement that this book brought into my life. Lisa opens herself to you as you read each chapter. You find that you aren't the only mom that has made mistakes and that you must daily renew yourself in the Lord in order to make it thru! She gives a plethora of ideas and if you sign up for her "personal mom coaching" on her website, you will receive lots more ideas. Right now my coaching is for my soul and I'm learning to take the time each day to meditate on God's promises. I don't have a close circle of friends that I can count on for encouragement but this book has given me the courage to become a better friend! Of course, there is a lot of practical stuff too like help with organization, finances and cooking, to name a few! You won't be sorry you have this book. It isn't a book I would get at the library. You will want your own!

This is a must have for all moms! It is just packed with wonderful ideas. I have gone back with my highlighter to mark things that I want to focus on or try. I felt very uplifted by the book and the personal mom coaching that Lisa offers is great. This book has put me back on track and my family can see a difference in me already.

5.0 out of 5 stars Great book for busy moms, January 10, 2007
This review is from: Taking Care of the Me in Mommy: Realistic Tips for Becoming a Better Mom--Spirit, Body, & Soul (Hardcover)
I really enjoyed this book and found it very helpful. Lisa shows busy moms how to take care of their spirits, bodies, souls, selves, and relationships. After discussing the importance of each area, she gives several specific examples of how to take care of this part of you. For example, under taking care of your soul, she lists some fun things to do with your family--such as pillow fights, a paper airplane distance contest (big hit at my house!), making a house out of cardboard and having a meal in it, playing dodgeball (outside!), buying a cake and having them print "Happy Monday" on it, taking the kids to breakfast at a fast food restaurant in their pajamas, etc. I liked that she not only discussed general considerations for us as moms and WHY it is so important to take care of ourselves (and that we aren't being selfish in doing so), but she shows us HOW.

We just finished this book as a 5-week study. Lisa is very honest and very practical in the book. I truly wish I had this book when my first child was born. This is a great babyshower gift! We easily get caught up in the child and neglect so often the "mommy". You will be blessed by reading this book!

5.0 out of 5 stars Not just for moms, June 16, 2006

I am not a mom, but I am an elementary teacher, so this book spoke to me on many levels. Any woman who juggles family and other responsibilities will benefit from this practical book. Lisa's Christian faith only adds to the "advice" she presents her readers. This book made me laugh, tear up, and cross reference with the Bible. Lisa Whelchel has a gift for writing. It is her ministry and she does it beautifully. This book would be a great gift for any Christian mom or woman who takes care of everyone but herself.

I love this book! For once someone who understands mommy needs to be taken care of too. All of Lisa's advice is timeless, and she really reminds you that you are a person with needs too. Everything is doable, you just have to pick and choose what advice in her "Rest stops" best suits you.

Although it's written with the christian mother in mind, all mothers can get something out of her wisdom. This book is humorous and very down to earth. You feel like you are talking with an old girlfriend instead of reading a book.

Lisa tells you about some of her struggles. Who would believe that the woman who played Blair Warner struggled with her looks and body image? She really understands what is involved with being a mother and the toll it can take on a "weary soul". I've read almost all of her books, and everyone is a page turner. This one by far has touched my heart as a christian mother the most.

There are so many fresh ideas that you will be able to add something new every year, especially during those times that you are feeling "motherhood burnout".

Give this book to a new mother, or someone planning on becoming one in the future. I wish that I'd had this one before my oldest was born.
