5.0 out of 5 stars The best medical self-help book I've ever read, July 18, 1999
By A Customer
This review is from: Taking Control: Living With the Mitral Valve Prolapse Syndrome (Spiral-bound)
I recently obtained a copy of Dr. Scordo's book Taking Control: Living with the Mitral Valve Prolapse Syndrome, which a friend of the family who also suffers from MVPS recommended to me. Let me tell you, normally it takes me weeks to finish a book, but I couldn't put this one down.

I learned so much about myself in this book. The stories about others with Mitral Valve Prolapse made me feel so....normal. Plus I learned how to do things to reduce my symptoms, like exercising or eating better. I didn't know how much control I could have over my MVPS, if I just changed a few habits.

I highly recommend this book. It was written for people, not for doctors, so I could really understand it. It's definitely the best medical self-help book I've ever read.

5.0 out of 5 stars Excellent resource, April 4, 2006

This review is from: Taking Control: Living With the Mitral Valve Prolapse Syndrome (Spiral-bound)
I bought this book a few years ago after being diagnosed with MVP. I read the personal stories and felt great sympathy for the people who were experiencing so many symptoms which I didn't have. However, in the past two years, I have experienced many new symptoms and this book has been so reassuring and helpful in giving me ideas about how to control them. I have found Dr. Scordo to have much more knowledge about MVP than any of the primary care physicians I have visited. This book has been immensely helpful to me and I would highly recommend it to anyone diagnosed with MVP.

5.0 out of 5 stars Taking Control: Living with the Mitral Valve Prolapse Syndr, February 10, 2001

Deborah K. Freeman (Naperville, IL USA) - See all my reviews
This review is from: Taking Control: Living With the Mitral Valve Prolapse Syndrome (Spiral-bound)
As an educated person who was caught unaware when my symptoms appeared with a vengeance, I came upon this book accidentally while researching MVPS. I cannot believe what a comfort the book has been in presenting this illness from the most basic of information to the more complex issues. One can use a little or a lot of the information, as needed. If you want more answers, the basis is there, and if you need help in confronting your symptoms, support and ideas are there. At the least, when you cannot get enough time or answers from your doctor, this book will serve that purpose, providing a complete explanation both physiologically and from a practical point of view. Most helpful are the shared experiences of other patients who have varying degrees of MVPS. Anyone with MVP or MVPS will appreciate this book and will keep it handy as a daily reference in dealing with symptoms and frustrations which go along with this syndrome.
