The best medical self-help book I've ever read,
By A Customer
This review is from: Taking Control: Living With the Mitral Valve Prolapse Syndrome (Spiral-bound)
I recently obtained a copy of Dr. Scordo's book Taking Control: Living with the Mitral Valve Prolapse Syndrome, which a friend of the family who also suffers from MVPS recommended to me. Let me tell you, normally it takes me weeks to finish a book, but I couldn't put this one down.I learned so much about myself in this book. The stories about others with Mitral Valve Prolapse made me feel so....normal. Plus I learned how to do things to reduce my symptoms, like exercising or eating better. I didn't know how much control I could have over my MVPS, if I just changed a few habits. I highly recommend this book. It was written for people, not for doctors, so I could really understand it. It's definitely the best medical self-help book I've ever read.

Excellent resource,

I bought this book a few years ago after being diagnosed with MVP. I read the personal stories and felt great sympathy for the people who were experiencing so many symptoms which I didn't have. However, in the past two years, I have experienced many new symptoms and this book has been so reassuring and helpful in giving me ideas about how to control them. I have found Dr. Scordo to have much more knowledge about MVP than any of the primary care physicians I have visited. This book has been immensely helpful to me and I would highly recommend it to anyone diagnosed with MVP.

Taking Control: Living with the Mitral Valve Prolapse Syndr,

As an educated person who was caught unaware when my symptoms appeared with a vengeance, I came upon this book accidentally while researching MVPS. I cannot believe what a comfort the book has been in presenting this illness from the most basic of information to the more complex issues. One can use a little or a lot of the information, as needed. If you want more answers, the basis is there, and if you need help in confronting your symptoms, support and ideas are there. At the least, when you cannot get enough time or answers from your doctor, this book will serve that purpose, providing a complete explanation both physiologically and from a practical point of view. Most helpful are the shared experiences of other patients who have varying degrees of MVPS. Anyone with MVP or MVPS will appreciate this book and will keep it handy as a daily reference in dealing with symptoms and frustrations which go along with this syndrome.

This book is fantastic--the best book yet on MVP. There is a ton of useful information--I really liked the chapter about others with MVP and what they had to say. I started doing with Dr. Scordo recommended--can't believe I'm starting to feel better already. This book really gives you the confidence you need to take control of this syndrome. You will not be sorry you spent the money--the book is worth its weight in gold.I've read them all--this is by far the best book on MVP.

Best MVPS book ever written,

Only a few months ago I learned I had a heart condition called Mitral Valve Prolapse. My doctor tried to explain it to me, and what it meant, but frankly it wasn't clear to me. So I got online to see what resources I could find. Lo and behold I found this book right here on Amazon.com, and ordered it. It came in just a week or so ago, and I've already read it through. This book really helped me understand what this Mitral Valve Prolapse Syndrome meant to me, to my lifestlye, etc. I saw so much of myself in the stories, the symptoms, etc. The best part is the book gave me some reasonable guidelines to make my life, well, normal. I highly recommend this book for those with Mitral Valve Prolapse.

I would like to correct some misinformation in the review posted by Louis in Alabama. The author has a PhD in Nursing, Cardiac Physiology, not an "unrelated field."

helpful answer to my prayers,

This book was so helpful to me--a true answer to my prayers. I have been living with Mitral Valve Prolapse Syndrome for a couple of years now, but never really understood what it meant to my lifestyle, what I should (or should not) be doing to live with it, etc. I heard good things about this book in a support group, so I bought it. It was easy to read--like it was written for me (unlike all of those other medical books that you can't digest). And, the best part: I was finally able to feel at ease about my symptoms, and now feel like *I* am back in control of my life, rather than this condition being in control. I highly recommend this book to anyone who wants to understand how to regain control of their life while living with MVPS.

At first I was a little concerned because of some of the negative reviews. But I did my research and found Dr. Scordo's information at the faculty site of her university. The book will speak for itself. It is excellent with excellent information. Love the stories of other people with MVPS and love all the helpful advice. I too am a teacher and appreciated the additional references in the book. Without any doubts, this is a great book for those who want to learn more about MVP!

This book changed my life!,
By A Customer
This review is from: Taking Control: Living With the Mitral Valve Prolapse Syndrome (Spiral-bound)
Dr. Scordo's book on MVPS has absolutely changed my life. For years I went to doctor after doctor, and no one could diagnose my problem. They all told me it was all in my head. Finally, a year or so ago I was diagnosed with MVPS. Finally the doctors realized this wasn't all in my head. But I was afraid. How would I live with this? Would it kill me?Then I found Dr. Scordo's book. It wasn't just one of those medical books, you know, the kind you can't understand. It was written for me, the person living with MVPS. The book suggests diet and exercise tips which were life changing for me. I learned about my symptoms (panic attacks, etc.), and learned how to manage them. I was once again in control of my life. For anyone with MVPS, I highly recommend this book. Put it at the top of your reading list.

Dr. Scordo has done a magnificant job of writing a book geared to the public. She promotes non-drug therapies and gives specific information on how to deal with the many symptoms of this syndrome. I highly recommend this book to all of my MVPS patients. Dr. S. Lewis
