This book was very helpful to me in understanding the feelings an adoptee has as an adult and the reasons for them. The author, Christine Murphy, tells her journey as an adoptee who at age 23 is stunned by a phone call from her original mother and who rejects most contact for 15 years until she decides she needs to find out why she has feelings of anger. She works with a therapist and on her own and makes great emotional progress over the course of a year. Because this book is a true life story, it provides insights into one person's journey from rejection and not wanting to know about her conception, gestation, birth and post-birth history to accepting and working on changing the resulting feelings and actions she had unconsciously had and done during her life. This book was so good that I would like her to write another book about what has happened in her life since this book ended.

5.0 out of 5 stars Great READ!!!!, October 9, 2010
This review is from: Taking Down the Wall (Paperback)
Christine held my attention thru the whole book, except when i had to walk away to defog my glasses and clear my eyes of the tears.
I felt her pain thru the book. I enjoyed the openness of her writing of the experiences that she encountered , her growth during the reunion and discovery of her adoptedness.
It was great to follow up with Christine online and get to know her personally for the wonderful person that she is.

5.0 out of 5 stars Taking Down The Wall - Insight Into A Sacred Process Of Re-connecting With Mother, September 9, 2009
This review is from: Taking Down the Wall (Paperback)
This book is written in such a personal manner that you will actually shed tears with this adoptee as she reunites with her mother. It is so reassuring to read of another adoptee's journey with her emotions and feelings that grip her heart and soul, knowing that this is being experienced by many others. I appreciate the author sharing this sacred and very spirtual meeting of two souls that are forever bound.

Murphy's narrative style will draw you in - you'll feel as though you're sitting down for coffee with an old friend. Furthermore, you'll find yourself endeared to her and the "characters" who populate her story. And you might just find yourself reflecting on what family really means.
