Book Description

September 25, 1992
Nutrition is a hot topic in the media as well as in the market place. But how much of the information given to the consumer is hype and how much is accurate? In Taking the Fear out of Eating, two established scientists have distilled the information from thousands of scientific studies into a succinct, easily read description of what is known, what is merely suspected, and, importantly, what is not known about nutrition and how food choices might affect health. The book takes a hard look at both sides of the controversy about the connection between food and health, with particular emphasis on diet and the chronic diseases of cancer and heart disease. Food is of course essential to our survival but our food supply is often portrayed as dangerous--loaded with additives, pesticides, salt, sugar, fat, and cholesterol. Taking the Fear out of Eating puts these topics into perspective in an authoritative and entertaining manner. This is a book that everyone will find relevant to their current eating habits.

Editorial Reviews

Review

"[The authors] have the worthy aim of providing the information you need to sort out the hype from the genuinely helpful...other readers may well appreciate the message that there is little scientific evidence to suggest that guilt, fear and suspicion ought to shape our attitudes to food." Susan Aldridge, New Scientist

"...an excellent guide for those with nutrition-related questions and concerns." Robert B. Rucker,Journal of Nutrition

5.0 out of 5 stars Truth as it is !, January 14, 2001

This review is from: Taking the Fear out of Eating (Paperback)
This book enligthened me about the issues regarding realtionships between food/diet and health. It simply states what we know, what we do not know about food and health. It clarifies issues regarding foods, health, diet, diseases etc, by just simply discussing the evidence from original research. Every chapter start with a very nice and funny introduction, I honestly laughed a lot. What evidence do we have for widespread unscientific loads of information. It goes on details of some the myths, imagined truths, about war on cholesterol, war on fat, organic, etc. If you want to know what are these all about and get the bottom of it from J. Allread, a well respected expert in human nutrition, this book is a tereasure for you to uncover.
