Misleading Title, March 8, 2003
By A Customer
This review is from: Taking The High Road: How To Succeed Ethically When Others Bend the Rules (Paperback)
I found the title of this book to be misleading -- which may be a little ironic for a book on ethics. As an ethical person with high standards, I was expecting some insight on how I could succeed ethically in the workplace while others, including the company, were bending the rules. There was none. The book is a re-hashed management book which preaches to managers about doing the right thing. Managers who want to do the right thing don't need the book; others will scoff at it. Within the past year or so, there have been numerous news stories about corruption in American business. Time's Women of the Year (2002) were people of high ethics who stood up for what the believed in. I would like to read about their person experiences and experiences of other people like them. I found no value whatsoever in this book, and I'm sorry I wasted my money.

Very insightful!, January 4, 2006
This review is from: Taking The High Road: How To Succeed Ethically When Others Bend the Rules (Paperback)
I found this book to be incredibly insightful! This book raises awareness about situations we have all heard of or experienced ourselves. Reading or writing about 'ethics' may be perceived as challenging at times because there is a propensity to see a 'gray area'...however, Frank provides definitions, examples and insight on how to deal with tough issues when/if they arise.
This book is clearly written to be understood by the savy business professional...this is not a textbook. I found Mr. Bucaro's book to be useful and a valuable tool for the business person in any profession.

A Laundry List of Things to Do, November 11, 2005
This review is from: Taking The High Road: How To Succeed Ethically When Others Bend the Rules (Paperback)
I read this book for a course and was disappointed at how poorly it was written. After I read the book, I went back and outlined a few parts of it on paper. What I ended up with was a laundry list of things you should do, things you should not do, or things you should consider before making a decision. Furthermore, the book hardly went into any detail to discuss issues that were mentioned.
The book is also poorly written. For instance, on page 60, a bolded section reads: "Why do I believe it means that?" Quite honestly I was trying to figure out what "it" and "that" were referring to and I could not figure it out even after re-reading the previous pages!
Perhaps I'm being a bit harsh as I tend to enjoy more intellectually stimulating books, but my guess is that the 17 references that he sites (of which 9 are magazine or newspaper articles) are better a read than this book.
