Editorial Reviews

Product Description

The Taking the Jesus Pill CD is a little bit blues, a little bit alt-country and a whole lotta foot-stomping, bible preaching, gospel blaring bliss. Fans of the play will be thrilled to take the music home with them, and music lovers will be able to discover the sounds of Southern gothic rock opera. This Charlie Terrell performance is a musical adaptation of his own story - one that reflects on his Alabama upbringing in a devout community. In contrast, this performance is a subversively entertaining event of interactive multi-media whose music, which touches on many points of Americana, is as profane as it is spiritual. Contents: 1) Motel Monologue 2) Beautiful Girl 3) Roadkill Preacher 4) Short Sermon 5) Wicked Ways 6) Johnny 3:16 7) Chicken-shit Tina 8) Taking the Jesus Pill 9) Angel's Gotta Broken Wing 10) Goin' to Heaven

5.0 out of 5 stars Rock-n-Blues and Genius!, May 25, 2007
By TJG "TracyJ" (Atlanta, GA USA) - See all my reviews
Charlie Terrell used to be the leader of a band in the early 90s called Terrell that were blessed with some moderate success with the song "Shoutin' Ground." Since then his songwriting has evolved to a level that matches the level of the greats, only corporate radio doesn't know who he is. This album is a concept album he wrote years ago and is now a musical in LA which will now most likely be made into a film. The lyrics are religiously controversial but really tell a story worth hearing. His growling southern drawl draws you in and the songs keep you tuned in. If you enjoy this album listen to 3 Links in a Broken Chain and then see if you can find Wings of Dirty Angels and Angry Southern Gentlemen in used record stores. They're more than worth the price you'll pay!
