The only work of its kind for McMurtry scholars,
By Tim V Fields (Austin, TX United States) - See all my reviews
This review is from: Taking Stock: A Larry McMurtry Casebook (Southwest Life and Letters) (Hardcover)
A fantastic collection of essays organized by subject. This is the only work of which I'm aware that even attempts to deal with a large chunk of LMM's career. The only detractions are that the quality of writing in the essays varies greatly, and that most of the scholars represented are regionalists at best. It seems that McMurtry may be right that it is impossible to write essays about Texas that appeal to any but Texas intellictuals, of whom there are few. -tf |
