This soundtrack is a good mix of great old recordings. Now, I have not seen the movie yet, but I am impressed with the tracks that I have gotten here.

The disc opens with the brilliant Mr. Richie Havens who opened up the actual Woodstock and got everything going that weekend. The it turns to CSR, The Dead, and The Doors while intermixing the origianl score tracks from the always wonderful Danny Elfman.

Speaking of the Elfman tunes, I found thew opening theme soft, understated, but smart and seemingly fitting for a Woodstock-based comedy. They were also not the bouncy/poppy tunes from the Burton films or Oingo Boingo, which is always fun to hear.

The album does an excellent job of covering some of the high points of Woodstock, musically at least. Country Joe, Joplin, Canned Heat, and finally closing the album the Airplane's "Volunteers" is smart and fun. To me, that song carried with it a lot of the feelings of the time. I like it.

Overall this is an excellent blend of songs from then and some newer recordings to break it all up, plus the sound quality is good and does not sounds like to disjointed like a lot of comps from back in this time, not to mention that it is sometimes hard when you mix live recordings with studio tracks, but this album did a good job of compiling those two together and not have it too choppy or anything.

This is a good soundtrack and that was nice to hear. I have not found too many soundtracks worth picking up lately. I did enjoy the "Watchmen" soundtrack, but other than that, I had not found one that I really enjoy listening to since "Juno", so this is a lovely surprise.

All the folks complaining about this not being the original documentary soundtrack from 1970: don't give this soundtrack a bad review just because of your own poor attention to details. The title is different, the cover is different, it's only one disc....
Of course this is not as good as the actual documentary soundtrack. But this is the soundtrack to a completely different film, and as such it works great.

I naively expected to receive the original movie soundtrack recording, but instead received only about 8 songs from the soundtrack and lots of filler material instead.

What happened to the original soundtrack recording that I have on LP? Why can't I purchase and download that album?
