Typical 'Various Artists' Fare,
By
Amazon Verified Purchase(What's this?)
This review is from: Takoma Slide { Various Artists } (Audio CD)
Because I love the sound of slide guitar, I put 'Takoma Slide' on my Amazon Wish List, where it sat for a few years.
I'm a fan of the Takoma label from the music of John Fahey, Leo Kottke and Peter Lang. I thought this might be a good purchase, so I got it for myself. Now if I was a big fan of Mississippi Delta blues, I might love this disc. But I'm not and I don't. You gotta be in the right mood for the chattering, talking blues style. And 'various artists' collections seldom serve up a consistent selection of delicious treats. There are some tunes I liked: classic tunes from Fahey (Poor Boy) and Kottke (Vaseline Machine Gun). Bukka White's 'O Lord, I Want You to Help Me', and Mike Auldrige's 'Everybody Slides' are very good. But the rest are unremarkable. Listen to the song previews on Amazon first, and let your response to them guide your purchase decision. |
