Marti Talbott is the mother of two, the grandmother of six and the great-grandmother of one living in Seattle, WA, USA. This is my FIRST EVER REVIEW OF ANY BOOK. So pardon me if I seem to gush a bit too much about Marti Talbot's highlander series. However, I simply must express my appreciation to Ms. Talbot for creating this fascinating, intriguing, wonderful series. I am now retired and have resumed my passion for reading highlander and viking romances. I normlly read about 6 books a week on my Kindle. Recently, while surfing for books in this genre, I discovered her Highlander series and read her first book in the series. It was so engaging that I simply put everything aside in order to read the ENTIRE SERIES. Yes, they are ALL that good! I've found that usually books within a series lack consistent quality. But every book in her series is a non-stop page turner. WARNING! It is nearly impossible to put these books down once you start reading. You will gladly suffer lack of sleep and missed meals but it's worth it. Then I immediately re-read several of the books, which I NEVER do. Yes, these books really are that good! However to get the most enjoyment, read the books in series order following up with Betrothed and The Golden Sword.

For me it is rare to find an author who consistently creates well written romances where from page 1 you, the reader, are completely sucked into the story. Buy this series if you like stories with strong hunky heroes, fiesty smart heroines, action, adventure, and true romance. You won't find overwritten erotic sex scenes in this series...just pure sweet romance which is so much better but hard to find in today's romance genre where just 10% of the book is plot and 90% is soft porn sex. Don't get me wrong, but it's just so refreshing to read a romance where the characters drive strong plots with exciting action and great dialogue.

I will be up front and say that this book has lost a star solely because the editing is bad and the author has rushed some of the stories and skimped on some details. If I could have given 4 1/2 stars then I would have. Regardless of the few negatives, the positives far exceed. This volume is even better than the first one and I could not put it down. I guess you could read this as a book on its own without the first, but it is so much better to read them all in order to keep the story flowing well.

The publisher synopsis does a good job of explaining the plots of each woman's story without giving too much away. I will just add that while the woman the stories are titled for are the main heroines, some of the stories contain more than one romance. And the romances are just one part of the story. The real beauty of this book is that it furthers the story of the McGregor clan. You learn about the people in the village and their lives. You see what happens to characters from the first book and you meet characters who will have their own stories later. The book does not span very many years but it begins when the children of Kevin and Anna from the first book are older. Meeting the characters from teh first book again is like meeting up with old friends. And their presence is not to be obligatory nor does it take away from the story. Instead, it enhances the story by reminding me of clan histoy.

My favorite story here was Glenna. This story had some skimp (especially when it came to Walrick's sister) but it was the most full and entertaining. Her father sent a trusted person out into the world to find her a husband and the story was woven amongst the stories of the other women until it culminated in her own story.

All seven books were a must read for me. Although there were a fair amount of grammatical problems, the price was excellent for the quality of the story.

I really enjoyed the first book but the second one was good but would have been better perhaps if I had read something else in between.

This series is wonderful! The writing is beautiful. It makes me want to see Scotland... and I'm of German decent!

I recommend starting with The Viking. I warn you to set aside all appointments and be prepared for chores to go undone. Every story contains romance, war, and the obvious love of the author for the people and places. When a couple married I was thrilled, when a child was born I smiled, when trouble came I longed to know how they would solve it, when a plaque hit I cried over the loss of "friends" and at the end of each book I quickly moved to the next. The author thoroughly drew me in from the first story. Like a drug I could not go without reading about these people for more than a few hours.

The only issue I have with this series is one I would classify as an editing or printing problem (as my husband is a printer I'll happily blame the editing). There are several misspelled words and misused punctuation. It stops the flow while it is determined what the author meant. While distracting it does not, nor do I think should it, distract from the beauty of these stories.

More About the Author

After I retired in 2010, I had lots of time on my hands, so I started writing ANNA and just for fun, posted the story on my website for people to read free. ANNA, typos and all, was a huge success, so I wrote the story of Anna's little sister, Rachel, and a third story called Charlet. Charlet was the most fun to write, and after her story, came seventeen more stories of life, laughter and love in the MacGreagor Clan.

I then divided the twenty stories into five volumes and published them as Kindle books. Like my readers, I could not say goodbye to my characters, so after the first five, I wrote nine more novels, bringing the total to fourteen. The Viking is a prequel to the series. Now, and to my amazement, my Highlander Series is being read all over the world.

Before my grandparents passed, they wrote a journal about their courtship in the early 1900's. Thus, Marblestone Mansion (The Scandalous Duchess Series) was born. There are now ten books in that series.

Seattle Quake 9.2 was written years ago and since then I have added two more books to the Jackie Harlan Mysteries. The Carson Series was already written before I retired.
