Candlewick has outdone themselves with this book. There are a nice variety of pop ups in here with a clever set of enhancements to the storyline. This is a beautiful book that captures the charm of the origninal story. I especially like the tiny little storybook inside. Little details like that were not spared in production, and this will provide delight to children as they review the story, whether from the movie, or the original novel.

I ordered this for my grandson's birthday. As he was opening gifts and tossing aside to get to the next one, he came upon this book and stopped and just started turning the pages. This is a top quality book!

If you child loves books then this is a collectors items for her/him. I loved teh details inside particularly the slide out items. great book for kids who treasure such items.

For a child this book is a must have if he or she liked the movie "The Tale of Despereaux". With so many things to do on each page it's a picture book that features flaps, pop-ups, moving parts, and even a removable flip book. The quality of the book is great with so much attention given to detail. It's really a beautiful book.

Despereaux was such an inspiration. He's this tiny mouse who doesn't want to live with the restrictions of his mouse society. He was brought to the castle to eat books - but instead wants to read the books. He was told never to make contact with a human - and ultimately falls in love with a princess. Despereaux is the bravest mouse ever to fight with a needle and a bit of red string. This is the cutest little mouse story ever and I guarantee it'll be great fun no matter what the age .

This is a nice, detailed book. It is long and maybe too much for todddlers.

We bought this as a Christmas gift for our 7-year-old. We were concerned she might be "too old" for it already, but she loves it. Good story and beautiful illustrations, and she's enchanted by all the "extras", e.g. the mini storybook inside the book and assorted pullouts. The pop-up at the end is lovely, too. This will be a keeper, I think -- one that's not given away when it's outgrown, but kept for sentimental reasons ("for when I have kids of my own"). A winner!

I was very excited to order this book but was terribly disappointed by the lack of pop-ups. There are very few spreads (maybe 10 in all) and only 3 pop-ups in all! The other spreads have a small book, flip book, one threaded proclamation, and 3 other lift-flaps. Very unspectacular compared to other pop-ups such as the Encyclopedia Prehistorica Dinosaurs: The Definitive Pop-Up. Plus my 4 year old commented that the colors were very muted and dull. Not lively enough for her. I will be returning this book.

The tail of Despero is a about a brave rat. This book is an all-classic book. The book of the tail of Despero is for all ages even if you're 50, 4, 2, 80, or 100 this

Book is fantastic for you. The book is all in one sad, mysteries, funny, fantasy. The movie is also available. but the book is better that the movie. I recommend you people to buy it its grate .
