Book Description

4 and upPotter 23 Tales
When Beatrix Potter wrote and illustrated "The Tale of Peter Rabbit, " she had little idea how popular this story and the 22 which followed it would immediately become. Each of the 23 "Tales" has reprinted over 100 times, and in the 80 or so years since their initial publication, much of the delicate brushwork and detail has disappeared from the pictures.

To remedy this, Frederick Warne has located Beatrix Potter's original artwork, and photographed it to produce these wonderful new edition of her stories. Thanks to modern printing techniques, her illustrations appear just as freshly as when they were first painted, and confirm Beatrix Potter's place as the most celebrated children's artist of the century.

5.0 out of 5 stars Another great example of Beatrix Potter's work, April 2, 2006
When Benjamin Bunny and his children, the "Flopsy Bunnies," go to Mr. McGregor's rubbish heap, they are pleasantly surprised to find it filled with overgrown lettuces. They eat their fill, and then fall asleep. When they are found by Mr. McGregor and put in a bag, Thomasina Tittlemouse comes to their rescue.

This cute little book is another great example of Beatrix Potter's (1866-1943) work. The story is simple and yet fun, and the watercolor illustrations (also by Ms. Potter) are excellent. Now, at one point the bunnies are caught and Mrs. McGregor says, "I shall skin them and cut off their heads." So, if you are afraid of scaring your little one, you might want to simply not read that line.

Overall, I found this to be a wonderful story, one that I enjoy reading to my little one. We both highly recommend this book!

5.0 out of 5 stars A Good Book About Growing-Up and Responsibility, March 13, 2010
In this adventure, the iconic Benjamin Bunny has grow up and has married his cousin Flopsy (sister of the famous Peter Rabbit). A little unAmerican, I know, but the story is presented very well with excellent, colorful illustrations. The story begins by showing how Benjamin does everything he can to make sure that his little baby bunny children are fed, even if that means going into the dreaded Mr. McGregor's garden. When tragedy strikes, and the little bunnies go missing, Benjamin and Flopsy do everything they can to find their children.

The tale has a happy ending, and the bad Mr. McGregor gets nothing. I believe that both children and parents will enjoy this tale.
