5.0 out of 5 stars A most stupendous story
What a thrilling roller coaster of a film. A tale of lust, passion and the quest for musical glory! One follows the path of a young Edgar Dinero and his rag tag crew of mates who spend the better part of their day dealing crack, racing cars and oogling at the backsides of young ladies in their San Juan ghetto.

Edgar Dinero ascends to reggaeton stardom...

Edgar Dinero ascends to reggaeton stardom through the help of one masterful mentor Julio Voltio.

And there was much rejoicing (and oogling at womens' backsides)

5.0 out of 5 stars Great Movie, January 21, 2009
I have to say this movie was great from beginning to end. Daddy Yankee did an impeccable job in this movie. The character Edgar Dinero in which Daddy Yankee portrays is about a young man who has this incredible talent being a reggaeton rapper but at the same time does not know how to leave the streets, for he feel is his only survival. Entangled in a violent underworld, Dinero falls in love with a girl who brings him positivity. He knows he has to make a choice before losing the one person that is important to him. Anyway, this is a movie that everyone should go see. I just hope there is a second part to this movie.

4.0 out of 5 stars Loved it!, July 26, 2011
I am a new Daddy Yankee fan, so when I found out about this movie I purchased it. My co-workers and I watched this movie and we loved it. In fact we had a ritual where we would watch it at least once a month. I thought the acting was good, DY was gorgeous, as always, and we were able to see a side of Puerto Rico that is not normally seen. However, I would have liked the film to go more in depth as far as his relationship with the young lady, and maybe a little more backgroud on his character, Edgar Dinero. All in all it was an enjoyable film. I liked the interviews at the end of the film also. If you are a DY fan, I would most definately recommend that you get this film!

4.0 out of 5 stars Music was his redemption and his bliss!, December 14, 2010
Daddy Yankee is widely known around the world. And this film reveals the origin of many of his repertoire as self confessional statements.

Valle Verde is the neighborhood where he lives and grows up: A relentless and violent jungle in which only the strong survive. He is the chief commander of a team that deals with pills. In the middle of this messy environment, the prize of a life is worthless. But as the time goes by, a close friend realizes about his natural talent, and finally persuades him to make a record that eventually will become him the exit to leave this bloody hell.

A balanced script without extreme doses of sentimentalism or self compassion. Specially recommended for Yankee's fans.

I am rating this movie a four because I enjoyed watching the movie and I thought of the performance of Daddy Yankee was good. The sound effects during the action scenes were marginal, but the music in the club scenes were excellent. It is definitely refreshing to see new actors as well as a different location (Puerto Rico) than what the public is used to seeing. And definitely a movie for reggaeton fans.

5.0 out of 5 stars Pleasantly surprised by acting quality, script, originality, October 25, 2009
Amazon Verified Purchase(What's this?)
I've been an on again-off again DY fan for a few years now and waited a long time to see this movie because, like many others, I was skeptical. I actually found a bootleg feed of the Talento de Barrio on the internet and enjoyed it so much, I purchased the DVD to re-enjoy the movie with better picture and sound. I think it is a mistake to dismiss this movie as unimportant simply because it stars a "teen-idol" reggaeton star. It's not often that people who are not from PR get to see "that side" of Puerto Rico in the media. The photography is reminiscent of the Dominican Republic footage in Michael Mann's Miami Vice (2006) and very real. I also think the dialog and acting are very good, very authentic (Yes, DY's performance in this movie is quite good). We, die-hard reggaeton/Puerto Rican hip hop, fans are used to hearing the common slang and idiomatic expressions set the music but rarely do we hear how those dudes speak when they're just hangin' out in their hoods--the linguistic patters, body language, the style of dress, etc. Bottom line is that there aren't many genuine Puerto Rican movies that make it to the mainstream and if you want to know how the other half live in PR, here's your chance. By the way, the film does address themes of drugs, violence, sex, etc. so don't get it for your children unless you are planning on sitting down with them and explaining what they are seeing.
